If I’ve understood your question correctly, you want to know how to use counters similar to the cardboard ones found in board games.

In that case, you can download the "cardboard counters" version that our forum friend CHINCHIN created for all of us.

All scenarios belonging to the "Historical Modules" can be downloaded from "Scenarios for Heroes and Leaders mod Historical Modules" at:
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=409403

Scenarios belonging to the "Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection" series should be downloaded from "Core of Heroes and Leaders mod" at:
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=315782

Finally, the most recent scenarios (in this case, those covering Normandy) can be downloaded from "Scenarios for Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection mod" at:
https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=317126

The recommended procedure is to download, copy, paste, and overwrite all files from the "Core of Heroes and Leaders mod."

Afterward, you can download, copy, paste, and overwrite all files from "Scenarios for Heroes and Leaders mod Historical Modules."

And after, you can download, copy, paste, and overwrite all files from "Scenarios for Advanced Heroes and Leaders Collection mod."

The final step is to download the CHINCHIN counters files to set up the cardboard counters version of the board games.
