Here is the path from Grant to 25 MPs away (I had to manually add the last 6 path hexes since Grant only had 19 MPs):

Now, here is the path for the Prentiss Division formation's Flag Unit. It runs to the last hex of the previous shot. So it is within the Hierarchical Command Radius of the Tennessee Army and the path is normal:

But, move one more hex away and the path is beyond the Hierarchical Command Radius of the Tennessee Army's Flag Unit (Grant). The path has changed to desaturated (gray):

Now we drop down one hierarchical level to Prentiss's Division. Page 2 of its formation report shows that its Hierarchical Command Radius is 10:

And this shot shows how far that 10 MPs extend to the north:

Here the Flag Unit of Peabody's Brigade has a path that is still normal, so is within the Prentiss Division's Hierarchical Command Radius:

But now, after extending the path one more hex, the path color changes to desaturated (gray), alerting the player that this location will be beyond the Prentiss Division's Hierarchical Command Radius:

Now we will move a non-Flag Unit in Peabody's Brigade. The formation's command radius is used for that. Here we see that that radius is 5 MPs:

Here's a shot illustrating Peabody's brigade's 5 MP command radius. Note that it extends from the 1st Peabody unit, which is the Flag Unit for this little formation (the Flag Unit doesn't have to be a HQ):

One thing that still concerns me about this issue is its impact on color-blind players. I would hope that enough players will compare the RED Path shots to the GRAY Path shots and let me know if there are players out there that can't detect the difference in them. If so, I can probably add a bell to the alert. It would have to be optional, of course, which would make it non-trivial.

I've modified the Info Panel information about the Path to include info about this new feature:

I have now completed Additional Featue #23. This allows carrier air group units to be subordinated to those carrier units while being in separate (but subordinated) formations. The benefit is that this allows the air group formation to have its own commander, separate from the carrier formation's commander. This is useful because the carrier commander will be skilled in naval combat while the separate air group commander can then be skilled in air combat.

This was particularly difficult because the existing "current attachable unit" routine looked for such units only within the carrier's formation (not where these air groups would be). I had to redo those routines from scratch looking for subordinates from the carrier's hex stack instead. But, I've got it working, at last, and now I can post about it (16 days later!).

This completes this list (the Huge version can't be done till everything else is finished).

These two shots show the Akagi and Yorktown hierarchies before the new capabilities. The air group units weren't subordinated to their carriers. Instead, they were stacked on top of each carrier like under older TOAW versions. Note that this allows Fuchida to command the Akagi air groups and McClusky to command Enterprise's air groups (also Pederson to command Yorktown's and Ring to command Hornet's). Previously, to subordinate the air groups to thier carriers, they had to be in the same formation as the carrier. That would have placed Fletcher & Spruance in charge of the US air groups and Nagumo in charge of the Jap ones => not very satisfactory. Thus the need for the new feature:

This shot shows the Akagi with external air groups before the new feature. It works but having the air groups internal to the carrier is much better and realistic.

With the new feature, the Akagi air groups are available to subordinate to the Akagi unit (even though they are in separate formations). Here is the view upon first going to its Page Two:
