Re: Hierarchy Module Document
With a little more work, all three Akagi air groups are attached as shown:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Now for the same procedure for the Yorktown. Here is the Page Two for the Yorktown Carrier unit. Note the initial available attachable unit is the Torpedo Bomber. I want to attach the Fighter first, though:

A little work with the Decrement/Increment buttons and the Fighter is ready to attach:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Now all three air groups are attached. Note the carrier unit on the map (above the formation report). All the air groups have been internalized into it:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Here is the Group Composition shot of the Akagi. Note the air groups are not on the map anymore. Instead, they are internal to the carrier unit => and their strengths have been incorporated into that unit as well:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
This shows that, even though they have been internalized to their carrier, the Akagi air groups can still access the Deployment Popup:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Now here are the Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet units in game. Note that they can't use the Attack Popups because they are Not Ready for Orders (In Reserve). OK...this is a problem!
Perhaps I could find a solution that would allow "In Reserve" carriers to still allow their air groups to use the Attack Popups. But, I've decided that is: 1. Too hard for now and 2. Might not be what the designer wanted. So, I'm going to leave this as it is.
What I did do was enable the player to detach any such air groups reverting them to independent operation (stacked on top of the carriers). I figure this is a very rare situation (perhaps unique to my Midway scenario in fact), so I think this is a good enough solution. Note that the PO (and perhaps beginners as well) will not be able to make use of this option, so designers may wish to detach such units in advance (exactly what I intend to do).

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Here I show that I've enabled the Yorktown air groups to be detached by the player. This places them back on top of the carrier unit, which will enable them to use the Attack Popup again.

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
And here the Yorktown air groups prove that they can indeed use the Attack Popup (by being detached) to attack the Akagi:

Re: Hierarchy Module Document
Finally, here are the shots of the Japanese and American hierarchies after subordinating their air groups. Note that the air groups no longer appear under their formation, but under their carriers:
