What does [inactive] mean in multiplayer game?

What does [inactive] mean in multiplayer game?

I was playing a multiplayer game and checking on the current turn. My opponent is now noted as '[inactive]' and I can no longer view the game. I assume this means that my opponent resigned but I am not sure. For instance, if I check the "Resigned Games" checkbox, I don't see any games (including this one) show up on the list.
