Turn 23. May/June 1943. Axis #1. Eastern Front.

OKW Land Combat and Ground Strike Planning.
(1) Of the original 7 OKW "suggested" land combat, OKW accepted 5 (LC 1 NW2-Kalinin, 2 W1-Kalinin, 5 NE1-E1-Rostov, 6 SE1-Stavropol, 7 Kerch), moved 1 (LC 4; Tula -> NW1-Tula) & rejected/canceled 1 (3 NW2-Tula).
(2) OKW planning allocated ground strikes to 4 of the 6 LC (1 NW2-Kalinin, 4 NW1-Tula, 5 NE1-E1-Rostov, 6 SE1-Stavropol).
(3) OKW performed a GSTK/GSPT cost benefits analysis to allocate planes/arty to ground strike/ground support.
(4) With the exception of 5.2 NE1-E1-Rostov air mission assignments between ground strike/support followed this analysis as to the optimum allocations.
(5) 5.2 Ju 87B allocation to ground strike was rejected and instead allocated to ground support due strong Soviet fighter strength and the inability of the Luftwaffe to counter intercept both ground strike and support missions to NE1-E1-Rostov.
(6) That is, Luftwaffe only had 1 fighter wing within reactive range & the Soviets have 2 or more.
(7) So the decision was to save Luftwaffe fighter and allocated German bombers to ground support for that LC (i.e., NE1-E1-Rostov).

Turn 23. May/June 1943. Axis #1. Eastern Front.

OKL/OKW Ground Strike Summary.
(1) Not good.
(2) No Soviet units flipped.
(3) Soviets have built up quite and impressive air army spread across the front.
(4) Luftwaffe fighters will have their hands against likely Soviet defense ground support AND getting their own offensive ground support through.
(5) Western Allied strategic bombing, while painful for the Western Allies and probably not as effective knocking out German/Italian production as the allies would like, has been very effective in one regard.
(6) Which is, diverting significant Luftwaffe & Italian fighter strength away from the Eastern Front and to the Western Front & Italy.
(7) Fighter strength Germany sorely needed/needs to counter the growing Soviet Air Force.
