Edge Scrolling and Unit Toolbar

Post by JamesHunt »

For me the edge scrolling starts before hitting the screen edges. This is extremely noticeable left or right edge which makes navigating the unit list or even the map often trigger the edge scroll, it is also noticeable on the top/bottom edges that start scrolling some pixels too early and make operating the drop down menu top bar also often trigger the scroll. In JT´s Campaign Series it is starting to scroll really when the cursor touches the edge which imo is way more comfortable and intuitive.

The unit list/hex info takes lots of screen space while in JT´s Campaign Series it is slimmer, being able to convey the same information in a way more compact way without occupying so much horizontal screen space taking away from the map view.

This both issues together make operating CSV UI uncomfortable for me and returning to the original John Tiller´s Campaign Series feels like a relief but perhaps it is just my personal preference or I don´t see really the beneftis/reasoning behind these two changes?

Anyways is there mods/config changes allowing to revert these back to classic JTCS behaviour?

I understand now that this 2 changes happened with the v2.10.20 update for Vietnam and Middle East.

Reading the changelog I understand the edge scroll was changed to fix constant scrolling when being on multi monitor setups and/or fullscreen functionality? I dont understand why the scroll trigger area up/down were made slightly wider and left/right so much more wider but for sure there are reasons. For me it it became unusable.

And the fat unit bar.The only difference I see that the function to switch strength, morale, action bars (which is not that often needed and the color also telling you degradation) are now always visible covering up map space with alot of dead space in the unit cards. I didn´t compare the font sizes, if this was made for folks with worse eyesight than this is of course fine but for me it is a downgrade.

I reverted back to the 2.0 and 3.0 versions of both games and the edge scrolling being now truly screen edge in all 4 directions and the fat unit bar is reverted back to the space efficient slim unit bar. So I am fine.

The scroll edge will be remedied in the pending UPDATE, which the BETA should be available soon.

The unit list is in progress, that is the latest version based on the feed back we had before saying it was too small.

New Beta soon, great too hear.

When this is based on feedback then so be it. I can undestand that for some the classic toolbar might be hard to read. Is there a chance that the classic slim unit bar can me maintained/modded back into? Perhaps with a JSGME solution?

Good question indeed, I'm hoping that Crossroads can chime in!
