Why doesn't the US Army have a DC-TYPE Marine Corps set of statues on a pedestal?

Next turn will be very critical as it determines the next several months of possible attack directions (RR).

End of German Turn 4: July 13, 1941

I Corps attacks toward port of Parnu. 4th Panzer Group panzers driver toward Pskov River Line, but terrain is poor and slows seem down. Get within four hexes of line.

RR repair up to Minsk from NW RR line. Both 3rd and 2nd Panzer Group panzers smash line past Minsk and drive toward The Land Bridge and Mogliev (5 hexes away). Problem is panzers for both are now highly fatigued and will need to rest next turn. Infantry seals up northern exists from Pripyat Marshes. Slow advance to minimize fatigue on western side of Marshes.

In southern sector, Rovno and Proskurov fall as all panzers drive in a wedge toward Kiev along the two RR lines to the city. 17th Army just advances. Moving past Prut River to Dnestr River. Still a long way from Odessa; RR repair toward the city.

IMPORTANT LESSONS

1) Primary goals have been identified (Pskov (Leningrad), Mogliev (Moscow),
Kiev (Ukraine industrial might), and Odessa (big port).

2) Expedite RR repair towards those paths.

3) Best tactic for limited Russian army withdrawals seems to be to smash a
huge sector in the line and forego major encirclements.

4) Move up Luftwaffe manually (especially getting recon units within
range of likely)

5) Don't keep advancing infantry as maximum rate (will quickly get high
fatigue and low attack factors

6) Establish depots manually where RR capacity exceeds 1, especially near
airfields of size 2+

7) Use Luftwaffe AI assist after moving aircraft groups

End of Russian Turn 4: July 13, 1941

Withdrawal to Narva River funnel. Have 2 lines around Pskov River Line, one on each side of river. Have heavily defended hex 188, 118 with mech. units. Defensive line goes to Polotsk.

The Land Bridge and Mogilev are lightly defended; hopefully panzers units will primarily rest next turn. Had to RR 3 units to be put Infront of Mogilev and built fortified region inside city. It will take the panzers a lot of their movement allowances just to cross the Dnepr River.

Another major withdrawal in the southern sector. Dnestr River Defense Line manned to protect Odessa.

Playing against yourself is an interesting idea but can be somewhat predictable as you already know what moves you have made as one side so when you switch you can counter them, I feel at least there is some randomness when playing against the AI, the first winter against a Soviet AI is brutal unless you have mastered logistics which I have not yet.

If your worried that the AI wont be a good opponent maybe try upping the options and difficulty levels.

In regard to "no surprise playing" without an opponent or vs computer, I tend to disagree:

1) It takes hours to fully play one turn/one side in WIE II!

2) After hours between playing turns, one tends to forget were individual
units are

3) Fog of War is still on and degree of recovery of smashed divisions varies

4) I am going to try setting Assault mode for an HQ for the first time!

End of Russian Turn 7: August 3, 1941

Retreating away from Pskov River Line toward Leningrad; battle for rail lines begins in that area.

Zhukov and Central Front take control of The Land Bridge defense.

Manning Yuziny Bug River Line but screening in front of Nikolaev. Couldn't rail out industry from Nikolaev or Odessa due to options not being available (12 HI/3AP each).
