Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Hi Tech Support for CMO,
21 year Matrix fan and long time player of CMO, CMANO, and before that Harpoon--love them--my fav sim/games of many that I've played.
I've recently went to play a couple scenarios of CMO but fund that I keep getting this error. I believe that I had a Windows 10 update that went a day or so before I first ran into the error. I can't figure this out--and have spent a few hours trying. Error checked my SSD, validated the program files on Steam (none missing), checked and reinstalled my .NET stuff, to no joy.
Interestingly, if I switch to the 32-bit legacy game version, the game runs, but the default public version and the public beta multi don't. Prior to the current issue, I could run both the default and multi versions fine--just a few days later, boom---won't go-?
I am attaching the error log and also screen shot of the error message.
Let me know if you need anything else to help me diagnose why I now have this error--
Thank you,
Rob Miceli

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
That's new! Never seen this one before, ever....
Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
From initial investigation, it seems likely that your .NET Framework installation has been corrupted (at the very least, an abnormal version of System.Data.dll has been introduced). Please try to repair your .NET installation (see here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotne ... all/repair ), and give it another try.
Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Thanks Dimitris,
I tried the fixing of the .NET using the repair tool from the link you provided.
It said that I already had the latest version of the .NET 4.8 or later...
So, no joy---
Very strange that the Legacy version of CMO runs, but not 1900.23--?
I have no other problems from other programs that use .NET architecture. And I didn't have any problem before the latest CMO version. Weird.
Let me know if you've got any other insights to this issue...and I'll keep trying here to figure it out.
Best,
Rob

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
If your case is also related with 3rd party software that interferes with CMO loading, take a look at this list and try to disable it, restart and try CMO again.
The table is AI generated and of course not comprehensive, so you may also search in the task manager, startup tab when you just start the computer.

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Hi Nikel,
I tried shutting down everything that is on that list that I had running--no joy.
I also removed and reinstalled .NET 4.8 and was hopeful---no fix.
Thank you,
Rob

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
What is started up in your computer from that list?
Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Let's go through the standard checklist:
* Is the OS fully updated? Graphics drivers updated? Direct-X 11 installed?
* If running on a laptop with a discrete GPU: Is Command using the iGPU or the dGPU? (see here: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=409198 )
* Is Command running as admin? (ie. prompting you "are you sure you want to run this program" when you launch it)
* (Steam only) Are Steam overlays disabled for Command?
* (Steam only) Is Direct-Write disabled on the Steam client?
* If running Discord: Are game overlays disabled?
* Are all other applications (and especially hardware-helper apps like RivaTuner, Nahimic, Nvidia Share, MSI Afterburner etc.) shut down?
* Are you using a high-DPI desktop? (ie. font size >100%)
* Are you using Norton antivirus? (This POS is very frequently silently blocking file updates)
* Can we see your DxDiag file?
* Is the OS fully updated? Graphics drivers updated? Direct-X 11 installed?
* If running on a laptop with a discrete GPU: Is Command using the iGPU or the dGPU? (see here: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=409198 )

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Hello Dimitris,
Here are my answers and the DxDiag file attached:
* Is the OS fully updated? Graphics drivers updated? Direct-X 11 installed?
Yes, OS latest updates, extended service for Win 10. Have latest nVidia drivers. Have DirectX 12 installed
* If running on a laptop with a discrete GPU: Is Command using the iGPU or the dGPU? (see here: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=409198 )
Not laptop.
* Is Command running as admin? (ie. prompting you "are you sure you want to run this program" when you launch it)
I have tried to run it as Administrator from the .exe file, without the launcher. No joy.
* (Steam only) Are Steam overlays disabled for Command? YES
* (Steam only) Is Direct-Write disabled on the Steam client?
The legacy "Enable DirectWrite" checkbox has been removed from modern Steam client interface settings, and DirectWrite is now handled automatically by Steam's embedded browser framework (CEF) on Windows
* If running Discord: Are game overlays disabled? Not running Discord
* Are all other applications (and especially hardware-helper apps like RivaTuner, Nahimic, Nvidia Share, MSI Afterburner etc.) shut down? YES
* Are you using a high-DPI desktop? (ie. font size >100%) NO
* Are you using Norton antivirus? (This POS is very frequently silently blocking file updates) NO, It sucks, I agree
* Can we see your DxDiag file? Attached

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Thanks, the DxDiag file in particular is helpful.
This caught my attention:
Can you please run these in an admin-elevated command prompt:
This caught my attention:
This is related to Windows Component-Based Servicing (CBS), which manages Windows system components. The component store is involved in maintaining Windows components, including .NET Framework components.Event Name: WindowsWcpOtherFailure3

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Hi Dimitris,
I tried the recommended scan and fix--
I really thought we had it nailed, because it found a bad file when scanned and it said it was "repairable".
Did the repair and it spent a long time at 62% repairing.
Rebooted and ran CMO---same error--crap!
One thing I puzzled about: how come the 32-bitlegacy version from 2023 works and this new version won't?
Also, I had the multiplayer version running prior to this version 1900.23. So, very strange that this new one won't work.
Appreciate the help--hopeful we can find problem soon. But I am playing CMANO in the interim!

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
Hi Dimitris,
I tried the following with no joy:
B1900.23
B1892.7z (I tried the whole zip file containing the DBs, GIS, etc and independently I tried just the .exe with new 1900.23 files). Neither worked.
They both give me the same error.
Thanks-
Bob

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
The link Dimitris posted 2 messages up is build "1900.23a". Did you try that specific download? It's fixed the problem for a few of us here.

There are 2 separate folders, 32 and 64 bits version of .NET, and so 2 System.data.dll
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET
CMO 32 bits must load one and CMO 64 bits the other.
May you post a screenshot of your System.Data.dll in this folder? Just right click, properties and details tab.
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319

Re: Can't start CMO--error, please help me
It is different from mine. Yours is more up-to-date. Mine is 4.8.9214.0
So it was updated recently and that may be the cause?
