IS it fair Auto Victory conditions

Post by tigercub »

I have played WITP AE since release its my belief that the Auto Victory 4to1 for Japan is Ridiculous and cannot be achieved
by any two normal players and puts no pressure on the Allies hence they can sit back and wait until ready.

If Allied player just sits down and defends, good Japanese player has no problem achieving 4-1 in 1943.

I have played this game as much as most, 2 players with the same skill 4 to 1 in not a achievable. even with Scen 2 vs an AI yes. 3 to 1 looks like a fair mark for 1943.

The auto-victory is supposed to be a total blow-out situation where it is almost impossible to come back from, not the goal of a normal game. By making it "fair" you are basically stating you want to attack and win as Japan and you do not want to then defend vs. the allied counter-attacks. 3-1 auto-victory would see very few allied players willing to put in the time and effort of a game as they are forced to suffer and then never get a chance to have their payback for putting up with all the pain in 42 and 43.

Jim I don't agree, 3 to 1 is a challenge, 4 to 1 takes all pressure off the Allies, there is not many Japanese players going around in opponents wanted these days but is full of Allied player seeking Japanese players, I would be happy to play anyone with the 3 to 1 VP as the allied as I know what it takes to do it.

IMO 4:1 for auto win is fine.

3:1 is achievable IMO esp as early on the Allied player is quite weak.

So needed to really blow out the score to 4:1 to auto win by Jan 1943 makes sense...otherwise as Japan you have to sit down for the long game. Also means do you risk more in 1942 for the early win trying to get to 4:1 or just accept the long game and hope to do enough damage as you go down to keep the win point wise.

ok to get a 4 to 1 VP win to give you an idea what it takes in my last game had to captured New Caledonia, Fiji, all NZ, all China, all Burma some still in the jungle and all Sri Lanka downed 10,000 aircraft sank 6 CVs 13 BB plus the normal Area Japan takes Dutch East indies, Singers, PM, Rabaul my opponent was human but clearly a poor player if only after landing in India and take more key city's did I get a win.
from were I sit its easy for the allied player to play for time and not engage until he is ready and this is my point.
there is no pressure on Allied players in a 4 to 1 auto win you need to total mismatch in players to get it.
with 3 to 1 it will force his hand at some point.

my point of view after countless games
bort this game on release
and the previous WITP

I am ready for a game if you feel the Allies cannot handle it 3 to 1 to win scen 1.

I think where your error is you think the game should just end if Japan does well enough. Its really up to the allied player or the Japanese player as to when they have had enough IMO.

So far in 3 matches all my opponents have given up well before 1943 if they felt they weren't doing well. An thats playing both sides between the 3 matches.

The key to 4:1 as Japan is you have to take past historical locations and do it with low losses, because if you take losses getting to ahistorical gains then it will make it almost impossible to reach the 4:1 ratio. As well you really have to cripple the allied land and sea forces for the points without also taking many losses on your forces.

Is some games currently going on the combined fleet discord where Japanese players have more than a 4:1 ratio before JAN 1943 so it is absolutely possible. Not sure with Scen 1 but for sure with Scen 2 and probably Jochens Scen 1.5.

I know with Scen 2 as a new player to WITP I managed to get to 3.6:1 with Japan by May 1942 when the allied player gave up. An this was with sinking no allied CVs as he had kept them well out of engagements all game. Now getting to a solid 4:1 would have been rough i think but it was in reach and depended really on me not taking any heavy losses to get that last .5 ratio.
