# AFTER ACTION REPORT

## May 30, 1950

### Operation “Hammer of G-d”

**Middle Eastern Theater — Israeli Defense Forces**

Today, the State of Israel launched a massive coordinated offensive across two fronts in what Israeli High Command has designated **Operation “Hammer of G-d.”** The operation represents the largest Israeli military undertaking to date and has opened a new chapter in the struggle for control of the Middle East.

### The Jordanian Front

At first light, Israeli forces crossed into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in a powerful offensive aimed at destroying organized Jordanian resistance and seizing the kingdom's major strategic centers.

Israeli formations advanced rapidly toward **Amman**, encountering resistance along the approaches to the Jordanian capital. After intense fighting, Israeli forces succeeded in breaking through the city's defenses and **captured Amman**.

The fall of the Jordanian capital represents a major strategic victory. Israeli forces now control the political center of Jordan and have effectively shattered the kingdom's ability to coordinate a unified defense from its capital.

Further south, Israeli forces pushed toward the Red Sea and seized the strategically important port of **Al'Aqabah**. The capture of the port gives Israel an important southern supply point and strengthens Israeli control over the approaches to the Red Sea.

With both Amman and Al'Aqabah in Israeli hands, Jordanian forces are facing an increasingly desperate strategic situation.

### The Sinai Offensive

While the battle for Jordan raged, Israeli forces simultaneously opened a second major offensive against **Egyptian positions in the Sinai Peninsula**.

The **Israeli Southern Command** launched attacks across the northern approaches to Sinai, while the **Northern Command** committed additional forces to widen the offensive and prevent Egyptian forces from concentrating against any single axis.

The Israeli advance has encountered considerably heavier resistance than that experienced in Jordan.

Egyptian forces have established strong defensive positions around **El'Arish**, turning the city into the principal obstacle to the Israeli advance. Egyptian troops are resisting fiercely, and repeated Israeli attacks have met stiff opposition.

El'Arish has therefore emerged as the immediate focal point of the Sinai campaign.

Israeli commanders are expected to continue applying pressure against the Egyptian defenses while attempting to find weaknesses elsewhere along the front. The capture of El'Arish would open the way for further Israeli advances deeper into Sinai and potentially threaten Egypt's ability to maintain its defensive line.

### Strategic Situation

Operation “Hammer of G-d” has dramatically altered the strategic balance in the region in a matter of hours.

**Jordanian Front:**

* Amman captured by Israeli forces.
* Al'Aqabah captured.
* Jordanian resistance severely disrupted.
* Israeli forces consolidating their gains and preparing for further operations.

**Sinai Front:**

* Israeli Southern and Northern Commands advancing into Sinai.
* Egyptian forces maintaining a determined defense.
* El'Arish remains firmly contested and represents the principal Egyptian strongpoint.
* Further Israeli advances will depend upon breaking the Egyptian defensive line.

The Israeli High Command has made clear that the objective extends beyond the immediate battlefield. The capture of Jordanian territory and the offensive into Sinai are being presented as steps toward the creation of a larger Israeli state encompassing territory traditionally envisioned by Israeli expansionists.

### High Command Assessment

The opening phase of **Operation “Hammer of G-d”** has exceeded expectations on the Jordanian front. The rapid capture of Amman and Al'Aqabah has placed Israeli forces in control of two critical strategic locations.

The Sinai campaign, however, promises to be considerably more difficult.

Egyptian resistance at El'Arish demonstrates that the war is far from decided. Israeli forces will have to overcome organized Egyptian defenses before the Sinai can be secured.

Nevertheless, tonight the Israeli High Command can claim a dramatic battlefield success.

**Amman has fallen. Al'Aqabah has fallen. The invasion of Sinai is underway.**

For the first time, the vision of a **Greater Israel** appears within reach of the Israeli armies advancing across the region.

**Operation “Hammer of G-d” has begun—and the Middle East will never be the same.**

Hammer of G-d update- May 30th, 1950

# HAMMER OF G-D

## War Update – May 30, 1950

Major Israeli Victory

Egyptian Internal Revolt

The Sinai Campaign: The Collapse of Egyptian Authority

The war has entered a decisive new phase. Israeli forces have completed their conquest of the Sinai Peninsula, bringing the entire territory under Israeli military control. Egyptian forces have been driven from their defensive positions, and the Egyptian government has suffered a devastating military and political setback.

However, the battlefield is no longer the only place where Egypt is fighting for survival. An armed uprising by Coptic Christians has erupted against the Arab government of Egypt, opening an entirely new internal front. The revolt, supported by Israel, threatens to undermine the Egyptian government's authority from within while its military is already struggling to recover from defeat in the Sinai.

What began as a conventional war between Israel and Egypt is rapidly developing into a much larger struggle over the future of Egypt itself.

## 1. The Israeli conquest of the Sinai

[מבצע קדש](https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/ ... ose=inline)

Israeli forces have announced the successful completion of operations across the Sinai Peninsula. Following weeks of fighting, Egyptian resistance has collapsed throughout the peninsula.

Israeli formations pushed south and west, overcoming Egyptian defensive positions and securing the principal roads, settlements, and strategic approaches. Egyptian units, suffering from disrupted communications and the loss of their forward positions, were unable to establish a coordinated defensive line.

The capture of the Sinai represents a major strategic achievement for the Israeli military.

With the peninsula secured, Israel now possesses control over the eastern approaches to the Suez Canal and has eliminated the immediate threat posed by Egyptian forces operating from Sinai.

Israeli commanders have ordered their troops to consolidate their positions, secure captured Egyptian military installations, and establish defensive lines against any possible Egyptian counteroffensive.

Military situation:

- The entire Sinai Peninsula is now under Israeli control.
- Organized Egyptian resistance in the peninsula has effectively ended.
- Israeli forces are establishing garrisons and supply facilities.
- Egyptian military formations are withdrawing toward the Nile Valley.
- Israeli headquarters are preparing for the possibility of renewed Egyptian attacks.

The Israeli government has presented the victory as proof that its armed forces can defeat the Egyptian military in the field.

## 2. The Coptic uprising – A new front opens

While the Israeli military was completing its operations in Sinai, reports began arriving of a major rebellion inside Egypt.

Coptic Christian resistance groups have taken up arms against the Egyptian government. The uprising, which appears to have been organized through underground political and religious networks, has spread to several communities, particularly in Upper Egypt.

The rebels have declared that they are no longer willing to accept the authority of the Arab government in Cairo. Their demands include political representation, protection of Christian communities, religious freedom, and an end to government policies they regard as discriminatory.

The rebellion has quickly developed beyond isolated demonstrations. Armed groups are attacking government installations, disrupting communications, and challenging Egyptian security forces.

### Israeli involvement

Israeli intelligence services have reportedly been assisting the Coptic resistance movement. Although Jerusalem has not publicly acknowledged the full extent of its involvement, Egyptian authorities have accused Israel of supplying the rebels with weapons, money, intelligence, and organizational assistance.

The Israeli government appears to recognize that the rebellion could have a major impact on Egypt's ability to continue the war.

By forcing Cairo to divert troops away from the Israeli front, the uprising provides Israel with an additional strategic advantage.

The Coptic rebellion is also creating a serious political dilemma for the Egyptian government. Suppressing the uprising could require a substantial military commitment, while ignoring it risks allowing the movement to expand.

## 3. The Egyptian government faces a crisis

[EGYPTIAN ARMY](https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/ ... ose=inline)

The Egyptian government is now confronting two separate military emergencies.

The defeat in Sinai has damaged the prestige of the armed forces, while the rebellion threatens the government's authority in its own territory.

Egyptian military commanders are reportedly requesting additional reinforcements from the Cairo command. Units previously assigned to the Palestinian and Sinai theaters may now be required to assist in maintaining internal security.

The Egyptian government has issued emergency orders, placing several provinces under heightened military supervision.

Government officials have described the Coptic rebellion as an Israeli-backed attempt to break Egypt apart. Radio broadcasts have called upon Egyptians to remain loyal to the government and resist foreign interference.

However, the military situation is becoming increasingly complicated.

Egypt must now consider three immediate problems:

1. The Sinai defeat: The loss of the entire peninsula has removed Egypt's forward defensive positions and created a major strategic setback.
2. The internal revolt: Coptic resistance groups are challenging government authority and forcing the diversion of military resources.
3. The threat of further Israeli advances: With Sinai secured, Israeli commanders have the opportunity to consider their next moves.

## 4. The international situation

[democraciapolitica.blogspot.com](https://democraciapolitica.blogspot.com ... hatgpt.com)

The developments have attracted international attention.

The Israeli victory in Sinai has raised concerns among foreign governments about the possibility of a wider Middle Eastern conflict.

Egyptian diplomats are expected to appeal to the United Nations for international intervention and demand that Israel withdraw from the occupied peninsula.

Meanwhile, the Coptic uprising presents a complicated diplomatic issue. Israel is likely to portray the rebellion as an indigenous movement seeking political and religious freedom, while Egypt will insist that it is an externally supported insurgency.

The Coptic population itself should not be assumed to be united behind armed rebellion. Many Copts may favor political reform without supporting the insurgency, while others may remain loyal to the Egyptian state.

The historical background is particularly important: Copts participated significantly in Egyptian political life during the decades before 1952, although tensions over religious identity and political representation were longstanding.

## 5. Israeli military assessment

[Why the 1956 Suez Crisis was a geopolitical turning point for Israel? | The Jerusalem Post](https://images.openai.com/static-rsc-4/ ... ose=inline)

[jpost.com](https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/artic ... hatgpt.com)

Israeli High Command considers the situation extremely favorable following the completion of the Sinai campaign.

The Egyptian army has lost control of an enormous territory, and its government is now forced to contend with an internal rebellion.

Israeli commanders are concentrating on the following priorities:

- Establishing permanent defensive positions throughout Sinai.
- Securing captured Egyptian military installations and supply depots.
- Maintaining sufficient reserves to respond to an Egyptian counterattack.
- Continuing intelligence and material assistance to the Coptic resistance.
- Monitoring Egyptian troop movements and the government's ability to reorganize its armed forces.

There is also growing discussion within Israeli military circles about whether the current situation should be exploited to force Egypt into a negotiated settlement.

However, the Israeli government must consider the possibility that an extended occupation of Sinai could invite international pressure and additional Arab intervention.

## 7. Final assessment – A turning point in the war

May 30, 1950, will be remembered as one of the most important dates of the war so far.

Israel has accomplished what would have seemed extremely difficult at the beginning of the campaign: the complete conquest of Sinai. The Egyptian army has been forced out of the peninsula, and the Israeli military now controls the entire territory.

But the most consequential development may be taking place hundreds of miles west of the Israeli front.

The Coptic uprising has transformed the conflict from a conventional Israeli-Egyptian war into a wider struggle involving the internal stability and political future of Egypt.

For Cairo, the danger is no longer limited to losing territory. The government must now fight to preserve its authority at home while attempting to rebuild an army capable of confronting Israel.

For Israel, the opportunity is considerable, but the situation remains dangerous. An Egyptian counteroffensive, international intervention, or the expansion of the rebellion into a prolonged civil conflict could dramatically change the course of the war.

The Sinai has fallen. Egypt is divided. And the war is far from over.
