TOTAL CONVERSION MOD - Mikhail Mod 1.0

Post by StuccoFresco »

Hi all, I've always been a modder at heart and since I love this WEGO system and the UI/mechanics of this game I've decided to make a total conversion mod.

It's based on a completely fictional world with fictional factions, and a timeline that starts in the 30s with WW2 technology. The game is still operational level like the original one, the scale is 3km per hex, and scenarios usually feature 100-180 units per side. The time frame is 3 turns per day, scenarios usually last between 7 and 10 days (so 21-30 turns).

The Mod is supposed to be played IN HOTSEAT MODE ONLY. I peered through the AI system and it's just not flexible enough to make for an interesting gameplay unless either I spend tens of hours to painstalkingly program every single unit for many different micro-scenarios, or I make extremely simple, unbalanced and railroaded scenarios. I'd rather play against myself and encourage multiplayer mode. Scenarios don't require a player to intentionally play dumb to make the scenario work: both sides can play at maximum efficiency and the scenario SHOULD end up fairly balanced all the way through.

The mod contains TWO LINEAR CAMPAIGNS. The end is predetermined, but the losing side will still have fun, can and will win some scenario, and can even win the campaign if he manages to score enough points along the way, forcing an armistice and an advantageous peace treaty. There are a total of NINE scenarios, 4 in the first campaign, 5 in the second one. They feature reinforcements, fixed units, ground and air assets.

For now there are only TWO FACTIONS in the game. They are fully fleshed out with unit graphics, small differences between same-type units, different kinds of Ground/Air support "cards", and whatnot.

Map graphics are entirely made by me + some heavily modified asset from another game (Order of Battle). There have been small graphical changes between the first and second campaign, nothing major.

Of course, I'd love to have any and all feedback anyone would like to provide. I've only tested the game myself and I'm sure it could be done better. I'll start replaying the campaigns and posting AARs.

I use Generic Mod Enabler to make it work: install the program in your main WEGO Stalingrad directory, extract the mod in the MOD folder and follow instructions.
