Hearts of Iron 1.06

Post by Hortlund »

Released today.

If you have HoI this is a must-have.

A new scenario added: Gotterdammerung, it starts on June 20th 1944. We made sure to get the OOBs as historical as possible...meaning that playing as Germany is unbelievably hard. As an example, the soviet air force starts the scenario with 104 airunits (in HoI each airunit symbolizes 100 aircraft).

We also weeded out the few remaining bugs, and made huge improvements to the AI. And my personal favourite, new counters were added, giving HoI a very nice tabletop-wargame feel.

I hope you guys will like it.

Nice, thanks for the info Panzerjaeger. I'll check it out for sure. One question if you're still around, does the AI U.S. go on the offensive now with regards to island hopping?

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer:
Most of the AI in 106 has been reworked. We have had a guy who have been doing nothing but tweaking the AI, and he is *really* good. Also much of the naval model from Vicky has been moved over to HoI too, making it really good.

If you want an even longer answer drop by the forums and ask the same question there. The naval ai has been a problem child since...well since 1.00 really...but it is working very well now.

Yeah, it's golden. The AI goes absolutely ape on invasions, and you only get a a half-hearted Dieppe-style about 5% of the time. Naval warfare works, too.
I give approximately two fifths of a !#$% at any given time!

The initial reports on the forums seem to show that it's a major AI improvement.

I'm just starting a new game now.
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fightin' for?

Yep I have to concur, the AI is greatly improved in this 1.06 version. And the Naval AI as well. Good luck with your Operation Sea Lions now. heh

I still don't like the buy me now, we'll fix it later trend that Paradox uses, but, after a year and a half of waiting this HOI is getting really good now.

Invasions into France and even mainland Japan I saw. The USA AI actually does quite a lot in the 1.06 patch. Invasions into France by England, USA, and Canada were nicely done, even though the Germans eventually pushed them back out and that's only because in this one particular game, they actually beat the Russians, but, that's rare and that's what's good about HOI, every game has something rare happen it seems. In a game previously the Italians over-ran N. Africa and into Iraq and Persia, in this last game England gave them a good whomping. Japan still has a hard time with Nat. China now. In the last two games they could not annex Nat. China and each game they declared war on a different nation. First game it was Russia, and the US remained neutral the rest of the war except for "lend lease". Then the 2nd game they declared war on the USA and not Russia, yet, allied with the Axis and were at war with them, but, not a declared war in the same sense as the first game.

HOI has really come around to be an enjoyable experience and is not the same game twice. With all the events and spheres of influence now in the game, anything is possible, perhaps the USA might just take over the world lol

I personally like playing the minors, I've played Rumania and Brazil so far, Brazil is fun, but the AI of Argentina thwarted me twice on hard settings, I might have to come down a notch. Even the USA protected Argentina in my first excursion, invaded my beaches and showed their strength, forced me to offer peace until Argentina entered on the Axis side.
Very good AI, almost excellent, but, there's still some things that will need to be worked out, at least all the AI's are working now, not just Germany and Russia and Italy.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?
