Anyone hear of this game?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

Anyone hear of this game?

Post by Cheesehead »

I came across an old thread on a different WWII game forum that mentioned a strategic level WWII game called "Russo-German War '41-'44. Anyone hear of this game? Is there AI? PBEM? Any comments would be appreciated.

There is AI, as well as PBEM. I think it is a great game. I would look at some screenshots and see if it is for you first-it is very "board game" circa 1980:

The big scenarios are the entire Eastern Front at Division scale. Years of fun, if you like that kind of thing (like I do...)

Operational level only

From their Website:

Russo-German War '41-'44 (RGW) is an operational level wargame that covers combat between Germany and Russia from 22 June 1941 to 29 October 1944.

The RGW map is 154 X 136 hexes covering Poland to the Urals and Southern Finland to the Caucausus. There are 868 villages, towns and cities on the map. Each hex is approximately 10 miles (center-to-center) and each turn is one historical week.

The ground units are primarily division and brigade level. Air and naval units are also included in the game.

RGW is a Win95/98 native application.

There are currently 51 scenarios planned.

So there's 51 scenarios but no mention of a campaign game. I can't see how they could 'scale-up' the system to play in the same strategic arena as CWiF

IMHO thats a good thing... there's something for everybody.

Please check out the Schwerpunkt topics on the Wargamer.com forum. It has been awfully quiet on the RGW front, but a v1.7 patch was released back in December and has greatly improved the game. I keep expecting to hear more interest in the game.

Maybe players tuned out during the long growing pains of this game and haven't checked back in. Hopefully we'll see more players get interested again and post some positive feedback. [:)]

Ooops. Blew this one.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn't plan your mission properly.
