CV Victorious

I have played a couple of games as the allies deep into 1943 and I have never gotten the release of the Victorious. How bad does the situation have to get before this ship will appear?

Bad enough that your CV strike group consists of Victorious and Long Island. Bad enough that MacArthur is selling comfort women to Japanese troops from the back door of his command headquarters in Brisbane. Bad enough that IJN fighter pilots not only have multiple stencils of Allied aircraft and American CVs on their aircraft nacelles, but have Betty Grable in their navigator seat.

But who wants it anyway? It's a crappy little ironclad boat.

So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

I got it on the "Yamamoto's Prophecy" scenario, but I cranked up the ship commitment on the Allies side. I know, I know --- that's cheesy[:)].

I've had the game for over a year, but this is the first time I've really played for any length of time.

You aren't missing anything with Victorious, she carries just a sparse number of planes. And she's pretty slow. In my game she's bassically a USS Neversail.

When she's all you have (along with 3 CVE's) - you take her & sail her. She is good in a pinch, but definitely not worth as much as an Essex or even a good CVL.

When she is released I usually get a couple of CVLs along with her - so it balances out. For short operations (say Gasmata or Bonis/Buka) she's not bad & provides a decent number of planes.
