Giving Orders

Post by rwatson »

Totally confused about giving orders.I'm playing the Joe's Bridge scenario and when I give orders to a recon unit to move up near the crossing and check things out a bunch of units start moving to the same place. I'm missing some concept about giving orders to single units. How do you figure out who will be following the orders you give??

Someone will be alone to give you a better answer Im sure, but in the mean time..Yes, it sounds like you're missing something. When you click on your recon unit see how it gets highlighted? If other units are also highlighted when you click your recon unit--then you're giving that order to all those units.

Did you do the turorial? I think it covers that type of stuff pretty well.

To get your recon unit all alone you will have to "re-attach" its subordinte units to another command unit or back to its original command unit.

Thank you for the reply...Been playing some more and it seems I was giving orders to the BN. HQ. when I clicked on it all the units in the BN. were highlighted.Think its good advice to run through the tutorials again.Trying to figure out the chain of command is hard without an OB available in the game. Thanks for the help

Yes, an OOB would be very useful. That will be added to the series in a later game. :)

In the meantime, what you can do to quickly see the chain of command, hit "2" which filters out all units, but HQs. Effectively, you have the chain of command in front of you with the blue and green lines to show you reporting relationships. Also, the counter descriptions and unit size indicator can be useful to quickly know who is who.

I hope that helps.

Thank you Mark tried it out and it gave me a better idea of what the command structure is,by spending a bit of time before hand I can draw one up .A little bit at a time I'm learning this game and so far I'm enjoying it a lot..BTW still use your" shoot to kill for EAW" outstanding job!!!

Glad to have been of assistance.

Did we ever get to fly together on the Zone? Hard to believe that I have managed to immerse myself in a world that is flat. :)

Don't believe we ever flew together.I still fly some of the older sims EAW,Falcon4,Red Baron3d.But with the quality of the current strategy games like HTW ,Korsun Pocket I find myself playing or more correctly ,,trying to learn them. At times I find that I've hit a mental block over some concept but once it becomes clear I wonder what I was thinking in the first place. But I find strategy games very immersive and am suprised at the amount of time that passes by when I'm playing one. It's been years since I've played some of the old board wargames like the Russian Campaign and Terrible swift Sword and with these two games I've found a re-entry point to the hobby.Looking forward to more games in both series
