Map Places

Post by Tactics »

Does anyone have a good resource for maps? I've google'd and yahoo'd to death and cant seem to find anything that good to use as a bitmap underlay.

I have it in my mind to do either an "Operation Sealion" or "Defence of Poland" type scenario. I've found a few of Dover, Portsmouth and Krakow, but none really give a good view of the surrounding area and the city.

Tactics,

the best places we've found for maps are the National Library of Australia, which has a map room, and the Australian War Memorial Research Room, which has copies of some wartime maps as well. Both places will make digital scans at 300dpi (for a fee) which is what you want for HTTR. You should try the nearest equivalent in your local area.

You might also try The Aerial Reconnaissance Archives. The front page gives a description of the service (it's a pay site). I don't know if the site's fully functional though. They got slammed when they went live and I don't think they've recovered yet.

Thanks. The Aerial Reconnaissance site had a link to a map site that isnt half bad. I dont wont to buy any maps so Im making due with creating the city portion on a small map and then importing it to a larger one and placing it with the X/Y thingy. Pretty snappy.
