Controllers?

Post by Slick91 »

What kind (if any) of joystick setup does this game support (e.g. joystick, throttle, rudder pedals, etc.)?

Starshatter includes support for joysticks and gamepads with four analog axes and up to thirty-two buttons. There is no force-feedback support in the game.

Did you have a specific joystick in mind?

No, just a simple four-button, hat switch joystick attached to an analog throttle and rudder pedals. I didn’t know if it would support the joystick, throttle and pedal setup.

To be honest, I'm not really sure! I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 USB joystick, which has an integral throttle and rudder control on the joystick twist axis. All of these inputs are considered to be part of a single joystick device by the Windows control panel.

Does your setup show up as a single joystick device, or as separate joystick, throttle, and rudder controls in the Windows control panel?

I have a Saitek X36 (still), and SS recognizes and works with all the axis. :)

Yup... it's fine with my X45 too, including throttle and rudder.

I keep meaning to do a profile for Starshatter, as usual it's just finding the time. [:(]

I have X36 too. Ships in Starshatter turn too slow with it. I can't drag sensitivity bar enough... maybe I could edit sensitivity parameter by hand in config file?

Right, I have X36 in SoundBlaster MIDI port. Or actually it is in corner gathering dust. Right now in MIDI port is over used Gravis Analog Pro :P
I assume you others have USB models?

Absolutely. Great work keeping your original X36 working for so long. Mine died eventually, which is why I upgraded to the digital model. It's highly worth getting the USB model of either the X-36 or X-45.

They all show up as one joystick in the control panel, and they connect through the old analog midi/joystick connector.

Then you should be fine.

There is a setup screen in the game that helps you configure your controller settings. You simply click a button for a particular control parameter (e.g. "throttle") and then wiggle the control axis on your joystick or throttle that you want to bind to that function. There is also a little checkbox next to each function that lets you invert the control axis for that specific function.

Actually I bought it as used from previous owner with 80€. He didn't said anything about problems in new computers. Any idea why this is happening and how it can get fixed? I could try to edit parameter KEY_JOY_SENSE in key.cfg file, but that trick may not work in other games I need 'stick (Freespace 2, TIE Fighter CD, MechWarrior 4).

In addition I have few other problems with it as well. PC don't find it every time. I have found out that holding pinky switch down when turning power to PC it is detected. Hat up don't always work. Previous owner told me to clean potentiometers after some time.
