Experience Points (Again)

Post by Phil »

I say "Again" because I have asked this question twice in the last few months, along with at least 1 other poster. The only responses I got where other gamers opinions and personal observations.
Could someone who knows please respond, because it's really been something I don't understand.
Anyway, I really want to know how a unit gains experience points. I realize that it's the last unit that inflicts damage that gets the points, but how much??
How can you tell how much a killed unit is worth? Obviously a sniper or jeep doesn't give as many points as a Panther tank. And if a unit is dispearsed, a kill is registered, but is it as many points as being destroyed? And how are leaders promoted? What is taken into account for that?
And, how are experience points handled with regards to upgrades? And my killed or destroted units...... how are their experience points effected?
This has just been one of those little things I can't figure out and has been somewhat frustrating.
Thanks in advance.

Would like to know this as well. If 3 of 5 in a crew/squad survive, do they keep the Exp?

If even one person survives, they keep all the experience. In the original SP (I think) the experience was all held by the unit leader. If he died, even if he was the only one who died, all the experience was lost. This is not so in SPWaW 6.x.
Never take counsel of your fears.

another question to keep the thread alive.

Do unit leader statistics improve with combat experience? I think they are supposed to but i hav'nt seen a noticable improvement in the skill sets of my Russian tank leaders. So while some of my surviving units have gained very respectible exp and morale ratings they continue to be dogged by the mediocre exp ratings of the leaders and this of course has a great impact on their firing accuracy.

As for the crew, dont have the 'exact' numbers for gaining exp but getting those kills i do know will get your crews experienced far faster than a unit that just survives the battle but did'nt really contribute. I have two OT-130 flame tanks that i often keep out of the main battle given their tin can protection. After a half dozen battles their exp ratings have only modestly improved vs my KV section which has been in the thick of things from day one!

From my experiance with a WWII German campaign, the leaders not only gained experiance, they gained it faster than the units. At the end of the war I had leaders in the 110-130 range while none of the units had an experiance over 110.

This even includes leaders that started out as snipers and ended the war as Kingtiger commanders,
thanks, John.

I'd like to know this as well. Also, anyone know if you get experience just for each unit kill or damaging a unit as well?
