How do Replenishment Task Forces work?

Post by Oznoyng »

*** NOOB ALERT ***

Okay, so I created a replenishment task force *and loaded it up with fuel*. I then tried all manner of techniques to try and get it to top off my CVBG.

1. I put both TF in the same hex (and clicked/ looked for any buttons that might possibly get the TF to refuel)
2. I had Replenishment TF follow the CVBG
3. I tried moving oiler into AC TF and use replenish at sea.
4. I probably tried half a dozen other things that probably seem stupid, but I figured nothing ventured nothing gained.

So, after all that, can someone explain to me just how these things are supposed to work? Also, can you replenish ammo and AC or just fuel?

Not sure about replaceing ammo and AC, but I think it does. Never paid attention before.
I place both task forces in same hex with patrol, do not react and use the refuel TF from sea button. I have noticed that only so much fuel is loaded per turn.

First, the only thing that can be relpenished at sea is fuel. AC can be flown onto carriers using the Transfer To Ship command for a squadron capable of carrier ops. Ammo must be replenished in port.

Second, in order to transfer fuel, ships need to have the operational points necessary to do so. Ships have 1000 operational points to use per turn, and lots of things use them up, especially on a carrier (each aircraft launched, movement, etc.) . If you have spent less than 1000 "OPS" then partial refueling can take place. Remeber, it takes time to refuel those big ships.

Try a H2H game and just practice the refueling. Good luck! [:)]

Hi Shadow,

Your answer is better than mine. Have had the game since it came out. My life interferred for a long while. Just started playing again. On the ammo and Ac, thats what I figured, just never paid attention. I only use refuel on the way back to port or before I enter combat.

Oznoyng, have you tried setting the Replenishment TF to Follow the CV group ? That's how I do it.

What I need is a fleet tug at Noumea to help bring crippled CVs home.

Its one of the options on the TF screen - select the TF you want to give orders to, select follow TF (or something like that) - then it will allow you to select the TF you want to follow.

Also you set the TF that is to follow to "Do not Retire", or it will get into the same hex as the TF it is suppossed to follow, then head for home if set to "retirement Allowed"

On a related topic, how can I get my bombardment task groups to stay put, rather than heading for their home port when they change to surface combat? I read somewhere that you have to set the bombardment unit to follow a lead surface task group...but will it still bombard the enemy port when the lead group arrives, since the bombard group has no destination set for it to bombard? Any advice would be apprciated.

If you put them on Retirment Allowed, they will bombard at night and scuttle home.

Do Not put them on returement allowed and they will remain and bombard again in daylight. And enemy aircraft will sink them. Its called the Risk/Reward formula.
