question regarding possibility of simulating boundaries

Post by pamak1970 »

First i have to say that i am also impressed by HTTR although i have seen just the demo and is certainly on my list to purchase(i may wait a little bit longer for the advanced version of the battle of the bulge).
I have one question.
Suppose that in one sector ,saying 3 km wide ,you have units from multiple regiments.
Does this affect the units?
What i mean is that normally in real life there are certain restrictions imposed by boundaries assigned from a HQ to the subordinate ones.Although it is true that you can use units inside the Area of operation of another unit(for example during a counterattack of the divisional armored reserve ) ,still this needs to be planned properly cause it is always difficult in execution.(Reserve possibly has to take the operational control of the front line unit which will assist, establish liasion of some kind and so on).
So in general the execution of the maneuver is more time consuming and difficult compared to a case where the reserve has to operate in an area "free" of other friendly units.
Same problems apply during " pass through" operations or replacement operations.
I would love to see that at least in a grand scale (regiment and up) ,these difficulties are modeled.
I would love also to see a player having to assign boundaries or areas of operations to major subordinate formations that will impose certain restrictions ,even create opportunities for friendly fire incidents (if the friendly violator has not spend enough time for establishing liasion with the unit in the area ) or some type of disruption of both formations located in the same sector (defined by the boundaries) or a slower response of artillery support for every unit located outside the designated boundaries (regimental weapons for example can not react fast enough to support units outside the regiment's boundaries).
I just type some ideas but i do not know if AI can support this kind of approach.
In any case the things i say above do not change the fact that i am really impressed by this game .
Any comments?

Boundaries is already on the wishlist but is some way off because it is a very technically difficult thing to implement.
