Airborne Assault owner should I upgrade

Post by Tomus »

If anyone here has AA and HTTR could they advise if its worth upgrading to HTTR? If the game is essentially the same with slightly nicer graphics then I will leave it if there are big changes then please let me know.

Thanks all.

I haven't upgraded as yet. I think I'm going to wait for the next series (HTTR has been out since about summer last year) which, I believe, includes supplies modelling.

But, from what I've read here, this game is quite a step forward from the original AA:RDOA and alot of people suggest it's worth the buy.

It just became available a bit too late for me. I don't want to buy it and then buy the next installment soon after.

IF I could have had the opportunity to buy it when it was released, then I know I would've.

Now that Matrix have sorted their distribution out (thx Matrix) I will definitely buy the next installment (Battle for the Bulge I think)

I think this game has enought changes over it's predecessor, but note it doesn't have any LARGE change, like would be mega-campaing mode, multi-multiplayer, or supply model. Anyway, it includes the whole Market Garden (the RDOA only included Arnhem part of the operation), and only for that it's worth buying. Also includes many improvements in general over it's predecessor at all level, and some "minor" additions, so playing HTTR or RDOA is not the same.

The next game will be an expansion for HTTR (Crete), and the Battle Of The Bulge, so it may be a while until you see the Bulge game, and also Crete. I recommend you that you buy this one.

You could read or skim through my tutorial and tips threads (stickied above) to get a sense of what is new. Also, keep in mind a lot of what has been improved is under the hood such that it can only be observed by carefully examining the behavior of the AI, units, and formations in battle.

100% worthwhile to get HTTR, the battles farther south are worth it alone, but the interface changes and additions make it even better. Waiting for the next one just doesn't make sense. Whats to be gained by waiting? All you are doing is missing out on a good time now.

Well, I was sceptical about it until I acquired HTTR and I think the extra maps and scenarios make it a worthwhile purchase. There are gameplay tweaks aplenty (especially with the new patch) and overall I believe it is a much more immersive experience.

The only caveat I would add is that if, for you, 'Market-Garden' is all about Arnhem (and for many Brits that would be true - no slight intended[:)]) then HTTR would not give you that much extra.

Maybe....but my marriage will be intact by the time the next one comes out. [:D]

Mind you - maybe that's another plus to buying it now......hold on......let me re-evaluate what I said![:D]
