How many points does the AI get in Campaigns?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

How many points does the AI get in Campaigns?

Post by Saltone »

There are a couple of things I wonder about here, when adjusting purchase points in settings:

1. Both sides say "Default" for troop purchase points. Let's say I spend only 50% of my 3000 (if that was default) points. Does the AI get
a) 3000 points, does he get
b) 1500 points, does he get
c) 50% of some AI default for the campaign, or
d) the total AI default to the campaign? Does it matter how much I spend, or not?

2. I set mine to "2000" and his to "Default". Does he get
a) 3000 points (The scenario default for me),
b) 2000 points,
c) The scenario default for the AI,
d) However many points I spend?

Let's say I have the same scenario as above, but I pick an "Easy" battle. Does the AI get
a) 1000 points (half of 2000 - that's what I spent)
b) 1500 points (half of 3000 - that's what I had available)
c) Half of however much the AI scenario default is?

Would appreciate if someone could explain these mechanics to me.

I'll try to answer, but i'm only 75% sure my answer is right, so don't quote me...

I believe the AI's points are based as a percentage of your points, the ones you actually use (core and support) - as long as the points are set to 'default.' So as you upgrade your core force, the AI gets to spend more points per battle. The actual percentage that the AI gets depends on the type of battle. This percentage has been changning a lot lately, with the different versions. THe latest may be in the manual, or readme files. Typically, though, the AI would get as many points as you when defending, twice as many when advancing, four times as many when assaulting.

I'm sure the 'easy'/'hard' choice is a percentage of what the AI would get, based on the current value of your core force and support units combined.

I would also add this. THe long generated campaigns in SPWAW are very predictable, thus becoming boring very quickly. THey may be good for beginners, to get a feel for game mechanics, but that is about it. I'd suggest you play some of the campaigns that come with the game for more fun and challege. It these don't portray the confict you're interested in, it is easy enough to have someone generate a battle for you, pick and deploy enemy forces, and email it to you. You then plug it in your 'custom' scenario. If you want more info on how to do this, I'd be glad to share it with you.
