battle screen

Post by cambronne »

I just started playing and have noticed that the battle screen will often initially come up as a black box. If I leave the game alone for a few minutes, I get the correct screen.

Yes, it happens late in the game when I play. The sounds of battle are there but nothing but the black box for a while - then the normal battle icons appear and the battle proceeds like normal.[&:]

Yes I was a little surprised this got released in its current state, there are some substantial issues that should really have been picked up on. Roll on the patch!

I'm happy the game got picked up by Matrix. It has a lot of promise, and is a great idea.

That said...

I will wait a good long time before impulse buying something by Adanac now, though-wait until I see that the game is able to run first of all (which it doesn't as of now), and to see positive feedback. I hope that the Guns of August gets a good look at, and I hope that the audience for that game takes heed of the problems with this one.

I hope Adanac learned a lesson on doing some more thorough testing before putting games out.

Come on man, you ever do any beta testing ?
the game can run fine on the progammers puter, and on 6 of the testers puters, and all looks great, then somebody with something different buys it, and now there is a hassle

I was in the beta for Diablo II, I couldn't even run it, we found a bug with the CD drivers that my puter had, that none of the other people had, there were some 1000 testers for the end part, and nobody else had the hassle but me, but once it was ready for sale, there were lots of people with the same set of CD drivers on there puters, we were lucky on that one and the patch was ready as soon as the game was released

testers and programmers get blamed for a lot of things they didn't see or have anything to do with

once it is found, it will be fixed, and tested to see if it works and then it will be released, I look forward to the next game from Frank

Yes-I am a tester for another game at Matrix. No need for the "Come on man..." stuff. We all want the same thing-I'm just wanting this thing to work in a more vocal method-I'm certainly not being rude in any imaginable way.

The game has basic flaws that make it crash repeatedly. That's a problem in my book.

I realize it's no easy task to get a game out, but these are issues that really should have been caught-or addressed in a more prompt fashion.

If you aren't a tester for the game-how do you know that it worked fine on 6 particular computers? Not an accusation-just an observation on the particularity of your claim.

Believe me, I wish all the best for Frank-but I am troubled by what I see as an unfinished product. Back at Adanac that may have been an acceptable method-patch after the die hard fans get it and bang it around a bit. But I was just looking for a finished, interesting Napoleonic game. Now I'm looking forward to the patch.

Whe the game gets patched, and it's fixed-I will be sure to post that I will now be free to join the Frank bandwagon, and encourage all to get on as well. I'm 2x the fan that I am the critic...

I think everyone has been very patient and respectful to Frank and I await the patch and down the line, Guns of August, with the same enthusiasm as I had pre release...I was simply expressing that I want to await the patch before sinking my teeth into CotD again...

I too am somewhat disappointed in the release version. It may very well have worked "as intended" on the programer's computer, but that would astonish me -- there are too many basic problems. But what bothers me is that there is a long list of bugs posted here and very little feedback. The official fix list will come out soon, but it would have been nice to have someone, like Frank, respond to the bug posts (for a while there I thought I was the only one on the support forum).

Hi Benpark
well I am a beta tester here with one of Matrix games also, so you as a tester should now that is not the way to post about your complaints or veiws of a another game, that it wasn't tested well enough

sorry if you misread my post or the way I wrote it came across wrong, I was saying as a "could be" not that it did in fact work right on 6 puters

but I believe in one of the posts Frank has said that he has not seen this battle screen bug (and is it really a crash ?, others have said if you wait for a bit, the battle stays to play)

"but I am troubled by what I see as an unfinished product. Back at Adanac that may have been an acceptable method-patch after the die hard fans get it and bang it around a bit. "

ah, do you own any games from Matrix ? I think I own 7 from them and all have been patched and most have more in waiting, and I don't believe that they released any of them with the intent that they were not finished and the buyer will be the tester for us, just things don't work the way they thought or hassles came up that they didn't forsee

I for one, am very happy with everything that I have gotten from Matrix, and can't wait to order more from them (the more we help them, the more chance we got to keep getting great games down the road)

but enough of that, if your post wasn't meant as a bash, them my reply was in error, but it took our minds off of the wait on the patch

A bit?? With today's fast computers waiting 30-90 seconds (or more I can't remember now but it seemed vary long) for a screen which has been loading in an instant previously is more than a bit.

Quite possible it did not show up in development. There are always different configurations of computers to consider. Even though it is not a crash it is an annoying bug. Don't know how it can be tracked/fixed if it does not show up on the developers computer though.

In my case the blank battle screen will last several minutes.
It doesn't always happen, but when it odes, I know that I have a long wait. Usually, I leave the room and do something else.

It may have been several minutes in my case also - can't really recall. I was just about to quite the game when the screen filled with normal battle graphics. After that I knew to wait for it.
