Patch v2.2.86 Released
Hi Guys
Panther Games has released patch v2.2.86 feel free to download it from our True Updater application or our downloads page.
The Changes in v2.286 can be found below.
HTTR v2.2.86 Patch Changes
1. AI - The wrong value for orders delay was being used by sub-units when the player issued orders, this could result in forces refusing to move off as by the time the units at the bottom got their orders the boss would replan thinking something had gone wrong.
2. AI - Line Support (AA, AT etc) units where being allocated to the front, where they quickly died.
3. AI - Now when issuing an In-Situ defend, any attached Artillery will stay where it is instead of looking for some where to deploy to.
4. AI - Adjusted when forces will stop and rest due to fatigue, before they tended to keep trying to move when units where very tired and would eventually grind to a halt.
5. UI - There was a chance the game would crash when a unit attempted to send a report to the player.
6. UI - A bug in the way Waypoints where being automatically deleted in the interface as units moved through them would cause your force to replan (most noticeable in Attacks) the next time you gave any other unit an order.
7. Scenario - Molenhoek Counterattack scenario tweaked to addresses some play balance problems.
8. Establishments - Minor changes to US Airborne Para Infantry Coy and Para Infantry Battalion HQ units - replacing BARs with M1919A6 30 cal LMGs.

Excellent! Now if only it had only been patched and posted on Friday, I could have played with the new build all weekend...

True Update is overwriting that version for me now. The patch is showing as 8.85 meg.

David, could you get someone to update the www.highwaytothereich.com site with the new patch? The latest patch referred to there is 2.1.79.

Actually, now that I look at it, the matrixgames downloads page says the 2.1.79 patch is 'available on the game site', but the game site says it is available on the matrixgames downloads page, while actually it's not available for download from either location!
Could someone fix that as well please.

Steve I saw the new patch listed in the Matrix d'loads section last night.
I used True update though without a hitch.

Well, I'm not sure if this is an intentional effect of the fatigue recalculation.
Arnhem historical scenario, forced marching 1 para Bde to the bridge, all three battalions stopped to rest some time between 10pm D1 and 1pm D2. None seemed to be massively fatigued, perhaps one or two subunits but even then, nothing like 80-90%. A bit of prodding (changing march speeds etc) would get them moving again, but not for long.
This is probably pretty realistic, given what happened during the advance, but was it intended/foreseen as an effect of the patch. (pre-patch, fatigue/resting never seemed to be an issue on the first night).

Cant seem to get this patch working tried downloading it from true update fails i get no activity when it goes to execute the patch after the download, also tried to do it manualy the executable says its running in the task manager but still does nothing. Is the patch working? my other patches have worked flawless up till now?

other than the change to fatigue behaviour (which may be as intended) mine seems A-OK.

Got it working but it was very strange had to keep doing ctrl.Alt.del in between each step to get it to display the screen, im thinking it may have been an issue with Nview desktop manager that I had enabled for some reason, not sure never had this problem before.

This was a problem before because in some rare situations a single very tired unit could cause an entire formation to grind to a halt and then stay that way forever. Well wasnt the patch nor nview, wife was on the computer today and I discovered 3 viruses on my machine [:@] [:@] . Just give me 10 minutes alone with one of these punks that write these things. I may have to reinstall, problem im having with all applications is say I want to auto launch a program I pop a cd in and say for instance its this game I go to install the game from the main menu but if I click on the install button the set up pop up is not displayed i have to open another window <any window> then the set up screen becomes visable like its being redrawn on the desktop. Would explain why when i was ctrl alt deleting into the task manager it was opening a new window and therefore the setup screen for the application set up would miraculously appear. Norton disposed of the viruses but im thinking something is corrupt still. Forgot to have the "Do not click yes to everything on the internet, nor open any unknown files" discussion with the wife, pretty sure my uv opponents may be getting a dandy of a turn in the mail about now [:@].

That is getting tougher though. There are now email borne viruses that will infect your system even if you do not open the email.

Typical, I don't have broadband and they release a patch that overloads my dial-up connection. Then I get broadband and they release a tiddler. It's a conspiracy I tell you, a conspiracy.

(1) Use a firewall like Zone Alarm that will scan email for attacks as your computer transfers packets on the POP3 port. {You could use a hardware firewall.}
(2) Use an anti-virus package like Norton Anti-Virus that create a proxy server so that it scans attachments before the email client receives it.
(3) Use a spyware scanner/blocker like Spy Sweeper to check for adware, trojans, and key stroke loggers.
(4) Use some other mail client like Eudora. Most attacks target MS Outlook and it's active scripting capabilities. {For the same reasons, consider using a browser other than IE.}
(5) Apply OS security patches.
(6) Perform regular backups of your computer immediately preceeded by a virus scan.
(7) Use common sense when it comes to email attachments and clicking on email links.

Virus free and all patched, got new respect for Ghost forgot I imaged my pc awhile back on a diff hd did a low level and shot it back over all restored minus save games[&o]
Couldnt gripe at the wife she doesnt even know she caused all this to happen hehe, figured it takes a certain kinda gal to put up with a wargamer, and it all evens out in the long run.

Anti Virus advice
One more piece of advice on the anti-virus war.
There are worms out there that can infect and damage your machine without any action taken by yourself.
They are scanning for tcp/port vulnerabilities within Microsoft's OS. If they find what they are looking for they deliver their payload to your machine and then propagate themselves by opening between 100 to 1024 concurrent scanning threads from your machine back out to the internet. Payloads vary from harmless to very destructive.
Only defence is to disconnect from the internet - wait for the inevitable Microsoft patch - somehow patch the machine whilst off the internet and then reconnect to the internet.
These kind of viruses are getting much wider attention in the media - keep an eye out and don't use the internet if you hear these worms are active.
