Uninstalling SPWW2?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Uninstalling SPWW2?

Post by Warmonger »

How do you do it? I downloaded and installed SPWW2 and it is causing me headaches. I have been unable to find a way to uninstall it!! [&:]No entry on the Remove Program list and no uninstaller in the folder or start menu. How can any respectable software that requires installation NOT have an uninstaller?!?[:@] Will someone help me? I'd hate to have to sue somebody [:'(]

SPWW2 is a DOS based installation. You will need to be in DOS to remove it IIRC. Are you familar with using the MS DOS prompt?

[&:] Delete the game folder? [&:]
I would do it that way. If there is not entry in Remove Program list, so there shouldn't be any registry markings in Windows registry. But then you have to manually remove folders etc. from start menu. (if any exists) Or you can use "cleaner programs" to clean up start menu and Windows registry.

I sold my old 98SE to my sister fairly recently, so naturally I got rid of the SPWW2 on it. I believe I had to resort to deleting the folders as mentioned earlier, but with SPWAW it was another matter. Though the uninstall worked, there were multiple SPWAW versions in the remove programs portion that wouldn't go away. It was annoying enough to me that I even bopthered to mention it to my sister in case she or my niece would ever get into that part of it.

OK...

Jim, I am somewhat familiar with DOS prompt.

Paranormalix, are you relatively sure there shouldn't be anything in the registry and I can just "delete the folders"? Why does the game require "installation", then?

Thank you guys for your help, BTW.

Warmonger, open up the dos prompt and go to the SPWW2 directory. look inside of it and you will find a file called uninstall.exe. The uninstaller is there. My guess is that if you are inside the C:\SPWW2 folder and then type uninstall.exe, that would only uninstall what is there. I haven't tested it out so I can't be 100% positive. Any other DOS gurus out there have a thought on this?

Deleting folders is not a good way of getting rid of things...that leads to such nasty things as your hard disk crashing within a few years.

That's why there is question marks around my answer because i wasn't 100% sure it was "the right answer". But usuyally these old dos-based games don't make any registry markings and i have always "uninstalled" them from my pc by deleting the game folder. And by the way, with Win98 i had to format start section of my HD every half year even without any "delete uninstalls". Now the first six months using XP and no problems... yet...

But if there is dos program uninstall.exe so thats "the right way".
