Getting the most out of your game: Resolution

Post by Golf33 »

When you start the game, you know the resolution dialog that pops up? Well, you can not only stop it from appearing, but you can also set a resolution that is different from the three options in that dialog box.

What you need to do is find the Quick Start shortcut to HTTR, right-click on it, and check the Target: field. Then change it to read like this:
"C:\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\HTTR.exe" -resolution 1024x768

You can put any numbers in instead of 1024x768, for example you could put in 1400x1050, which some laptops like. The only restriction is the resolution has to be at least 800x600.

You can also use a shortcut target like this:
"C:\Matrix Games\Highway to the Reich\HTTR.exe" -resolution debug

Which will make the game use your desktop resolution settings. However, some players have found that this slows the game down quite a bit.

Thanks for the debug tip, actuallyu quite useful as I change my resolution way too often based on how tired I am and this lets it be dynamic [:)]

Another tip, from Arjuna: if you have an LCD or TFT screen, try setting the resolution of the game to the native resolution of your screen, for best results!

It should be in your owners manual or you can visit the manufacturer's Web site.

Native resolution for an LCD will give a very crisp and sharp display. Non-native will give you somewhat of a blurred image as the unit interpolates the pixels.

Some LCDs also have a 1:1 mode where they don't interpolate and just display a smaller image for non-native resolution.

Also, if your video card and LCD support, then you should use a DVI (digital) cable as opposed to the a VGA cable normally used for CRTs. This skips the DIGITAL -> ANALOG -> DIGITAL conversion which takes place when you use a VGA cable. This results in less jitter and a sharper image.

Generally speaking native resolutions are as follows: 17 inch-1280x1024 19 inch-1280x1024 20 inch-1600x1200
