Hardware Requirements Update

Post by Mr.Frag »

Due to the vast amount of information being presented, the 800x600 mode was removed from the game. The current product only supports the 1024x768 resolution unlike Uncommon Valor which had a toggle between the two modes.

If your machine can not handle 1024x768 resolutions with an acceptable refresh rate, start saving up your pennies for something that can. The reason I say acceptable refresh rate is that you will be spending countless hours in front of your screen entering and adjusting orders.

Other then the video requirements, any machine with 256 Megs of ram and about a 450 MHz processor and a gigabyte of free drive space will have you happy. Turn resolution is obviously faster on faster machines but this does not mean it is required to run.

The reason I raise this is based on what I saw in the HTTR forum back when Dave from Pather Games ran a poll. It appears that war gamers tend to have the oldest collection of hardware on the planet because they spend all their money on books instead of computer upgrades.

DAMMIT.... *%&#**#^*&@#*(&$(*&*#%

I'm one of those 800x600 guys. I was hoping against hope that WiTP wasn't going to go higher...

I'm not mad at Matrix, I should have seen this coming... I'm just mad because it's less beer money now that I need to buy new hardware.

Figured there were a couple of folks like you around ... thats why I wanted to get the news out before you got home from the store with WitP only to find out the hard way. This was, you have time still to divert the beer money! [;)]

As you can see, there really is nowhere to steal that 224x168 from.

Dang...that Gigabyte of free hard drive space may be a challenge, too. Funny how even a massive hard drive tends to fill up in just a couple of years.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Whew!!![:)][:)][:)] I barely pass with my 600 MHz P3, 256M Ram and 4 GIG free HD space left. ALRIGHT! Although I may have to upgrade my 15" monitor.

I've been able to run WitP while testing on both a Win98se PIII 500 laptop with 320MB RAM and a WinXP Athlon 1.2GHz with 450MB RAM. My WinXP machine runs turns a little faster, but doggles me when I alt+tab to other proggys.

So you are saying that at 800x600 the game couldn't center the information windows? That is what your posting of the two screen shots seems to show. Otherwise, all the detail is there...

Don't worry, I'm not complaining. I have the capability to handle the game, as long as it still runs under Windows98SE, which appears to be the case.

I'm glad to hear the requirements are so low.. Some of us poor college students only have a 500 MHz... I have tons of RAM and even more HD space... So no problem there.

I agree with you. My new 20-inch TFT LCD screen would be great to play on, but it will look fuzzy at 1024x768. 1600x1200 is native resolution. Guys with 800x600 could just page through 4 screens to see it all... [;)]

I think it would be smart to have the game be able to cater to 1600x1200 as more and more flatscreens have this mode as native....and more and more people are buying flatscreens.

On the flagship denotion thing (the # character) - is it possible/easy to switch this to something more intuitive? It's obviously not a biggie but with all the other nice graphics a little flag would seem to be a nice alternative.....

salivating for the game now....especially since I've signed up to get trounced by Mog....
