Replacing in-game music

Post by KG Erwin »

Ok, rule number one: the theme music at game start is hard-coded, so forget it.
As for the various menus, there may be some possibilities. After hearing the soundtrack to "Band of Brothers", which I love, I thought of recording certain tracks, converting them to wav files, and renaming and replacing these for the in-game menu screen music. I'll get back to you...OK, using converter programs won't work.

With respect to Derek Boain, who composed the SPWaW music, I simply wanted to add some variety. No dice. The in-game music is part of the program and can't be altered. I will leave this post for others who may ask about it.

You can turn the ingame music off and run winamp in the background with different music playing, thats what I do all the time.

erm, I have the Band of Brothers theme in game. [:)] Along with several other songs. Believe it was something like 1001 or 1101 or something like that in the sound folder, up to 15 or 20. Would have to look at the text note I made with a list. They play at the main menu, campaign force selection, etc.

Baron, let me know how you did this. I have successfully converted MP3s to wav files for use in Silent Hunter II, but the process of converting and renaming didn't work for SPWaW.

The problem is, copy-protected WMA files can't be converted.

Sry if I am a little off base here (long, LONG night, and going on 2 hours sleep. [:)] ) Are you trying to convert from WMA format, or to? If from, I have no idea what to do, ripped to MP3/used base MP3s, and then converted to SP compatible format. I used DB Power Amp to do the conversions. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ Using that, you choose the song. A little mini menu pops up, click on Wav. Then, at the next screen, choose format near the top. I used PCM 22khz, 8bit. 16bit may work, as some other sounds are 16bit, but I went 8 since the files I replaced were also 8. Then renamed em to 10XX to replace the music files, and you should be goot to go. I can send you a sample if you wish, just post or PM me your e-mail if you are interested. (be ~4-6 megs zipped)
