Of course you will send ships back. What do u do when you get a totaly obsolete ship? You send it back togeter with a letter to your superior's superior about the latter's (or former's, i never got that right...) (in)competence. War as such depends on your enemy's capability to make mistake's. Sometimes you make those mistakes and sometimes your superiors. The best thing is our superior in UV is an AI...Makes you think, doesn't it?

placing corsairs on CV's is not that gamey, but deploying 60+ men in the path of 2 divisions just blocking their retreat path is (like flying these 60 men with a flying boat), resulting in the possible surrender of the force!!!

But that's easily countered. If you expect an invasion, and you mostly do expect it, put your 120 men in the neighbouring hex and that's the end of the story. If your opponent surprises you, that means he's making a hell of a risk or being brilliant or both. But Corsairs...Good thing WitP is coming. Lifetime supply of beer to anyone who finishes it. He won't have many days on this Earth left anyway so it won't be such a cost [:'(]

WitP fixed this, those 60 men will be overrun by the retreating force now

I was just wondering if people thought that evacuating PM in a PBEM game was gamey.

I have seen several references to people abandoning PM, but wondered if it could actually have been done from a political perspective. I confess I am not enough a student of history to say.

No, this is a valid tactic. In scen. #17 and #19 it is virtually impossible for the Allies to hold PM.

However, as the Allied player, I never evacuate PM and always fight for it. I will lose it but the Allied player can afford to lose a base unit and some infantry. They will get plenty more. The goal as the Allied player is to attrit the Japanese player and to cause delay-and PM is a great place to do this. As the Japanese player I am only too glad if my opponent evacuates.

Just make sure you get your aircraft out before he closes your airstrips with BBs [:-]

peter tsouras, in his what if book on the pacific war (Rising Sun Victorious), has a chapter on the japanese invasion of northern australia.
