How about a Demo of WitP!

Post by Capt Cliff »

It would be nice to have a demo of WitP for game mechanics sake alone. A small scenario, say the Phippines, with a small map and then we can fly her around the pattern a few times. I would like to compare WitP to UV and then make my up my mind if it's worth $70 for prime rib or just a rehash of UV! I love monster games but let's hope this isn't Bambi vs. Godzilla!

The only difference between a small demo and the full game is the scenario file. Don't ever expect to see a demo because it would amount to giving the game away for free.

Consider UV to be the training wheels. [;)]

With watching 18 Month testing in this forums there should be no need for a demo

If a demo is not going to be provided to check out the WitP game mechanics then a complete list of WitP vs. UV system I/O procedures will be rquired, if you want my $70. [:-]

I think all you will need to do is watch the absolute lack of messages here following the release to know that it is worth the money. This place will be very quiet from the "shock and awe" of those who start the game up for the first time then think of excuses to not show up to work for the next week or so while they recover.

I have no vested interest in getting you to buy something that is no good to put food on the table for Matrix employees.

If I personally felt that WitP was a flop, I would not have even bothered to start some PBEM's with Mog, I would have just kept looking for bugs instead. I certainly would not want my real name on the credits page (a matter of personal pride).

While some bugs may get past us because we only have 48 hours in a day to test with, the game itself is beyond being fun. It is a life altering addiction. When you find yourself up at 3am in the morning firing that last turn back when you *know* you have a meeting at 8am. [>:]

Exactly, that is what I'd be watching to see if the game is worth my $70, plus independant game sites reviews. But personally, I will be pre-ordering as believe in the product already [8D].

I think this was posted already, but in case it's not commonly known, you can ALREADY pre-order this game via "Chips'n Bits" website. Details are scarce but the prices are the same and I've had good luck with them.

Will I preorder though? LOL! Hard to say... As stoked as I am for this game I think I'm going to wait on the first reviews... then I'll be after it quicker'n you can say BOO! LOL!

.....plus independant game sites reviews..

Unfortunately in wargaming there is no such thing. The independant review sites do not have the patience to properly review a wargame - and nor do the bulk of their readers.

And you can preorder your own personal space station too. It doesn't mean you will ever see it.

Matrix has already stated that it is very likely to only be available *directly* from them.

Well as true as that may be in general I have to disagree. PC Gamer gave a resounding review of UV right after it came out. I hadn't even heard of Matrix up to that point. When I read about the game and all it's potential I ran out and got it. Haven't looked back yet... [8D] They may not COMMONLY get reviewed, but reviews of wargames DO happen. [:)]

Right you are Frag, but as you point out, it's only "very likely". I.e., it's not written in stone. I have no idea how Chips and Bits goes about their order process... Point being though I doubt I'll get it from them. I simply state it as an option. I plan to wait and see what reviewers have to say about it then fly off from there and get it from Matrix directly. I'm sure from the reading I've done of this forum I've done since late 2002 that it'll be a gem. Just plan to wait and see. [8D]

I will just order it, the day it comes out, or perhaps, as soon as matrix lets me preorder it.
There is no question, to me, that it will be great.
Now hurry it up guys!

I would be shocked and awed if a reviewer actually spent the time to get to know WitP. If the reviewer had never played UV it would be near impossible for them to learn the game in the time they are likely to have to review it. If they had played UV it is likely they could at least point out some of the more obvious differences.

By the way, I think Kid has done a great service with his two threads (unofficial game description and FAQ). That's real dedication to serve.
