Refereed Match?

Post by Galka »

I'm looking for two volunteers to play against each other in a game where a third person picks the map and purchases the troops. The two gamers can select which side, when, and other details.
"In light of my experience, I consider that your conclusion that the attacker needs a three to one superiority is under the mark, rather than over it. I would say that, for success, the attacker needs six to one or seven to one against a well-knit defence

Well that's 2/3rds

What I'm suggesting is, two players decide what battle they would like to play and a third party be commissioned to select the battlefield and weapons. No player would be forced into a battle scenario, this choice would be made beforehand.

example a small battle in 1941 russia

german advance

1 company 20 mkIII tanks led by 2 MkII command tanks
sdkfz 221 x2
1 company motorized troops
1 battery 37mm AT guns motorized
4 platoons as security or flank protection non motorized

russian defend

3 companies infantry w/3 AT rifles per company
1 platoon 45mm AT towed
platoon of ba-20 armoured cars
1 battery of 76.2mm field howitzer towed
1 KV-2 Heavy tank

No mines or fortifications to represent being overtaken in late summer '41

reinforcements should be requested to the referee when appropriate. In this case when the Germans make a breakthrough, and should be appropriate for the task.

i.e. germans might request another motorized company, russians another heavy tank, field artillery, or AT weapons.

The objective might be a road or a artillery base to overrun or several combinations depending on size. The referee can rule on how close the defender can set up to the victory hexes as the circumstances permit.

Essentially the referee becomes a bit of a scenario designer giving each player objectives watching the progression of the objectives and deciding what award should be granted to the opponents above and beyond a point score if warranted.

Weapons and troops and would be most traditional. Swarming M4A1 and even light Stuart tanks might play a larger role. Players may want to be British, Polish, or commonwealth [X(]

Time would be extended to allow maneuver and deception tactics not permissible in a conventional game.

Any takers?

Hi Vik! It's been a while since you last kicked my ass ...

I'm up for another tilt at the windmill ... and a refereed game gives me one less excuse for failure [;)]
