Done.
The titan database was improved mostly in the recon and light classes, with some armor swaps increasing heat dissipation for some titans. Also a few other tweaks here and there.

@Iceman

You can post it in the map forums... It's one of the forums that support .zip files

Are the heavy and assault titans done yet? AFAICR the database got about half finished last time it was updated - I don't remember which half. :-/
I can help out with improvements, if you trust me :p I've posted a few updates of individual titans but sadly they are lost to us now.

The database was 'done' quite a while ago... although if any 'significant' improvement are found go ahead and post them... while there is no plan (as far as I know) on updating it agian, if enough improvements are eventually found another update would not be out of the question.

The heavies and assaults didn't have quite as many changes as the lower weight classes (in general) due to the way the armor worked out, although more then a few got some minor changes and a few got indepth workovers.

btw... are you the one who posted an updated Tribesman a long time back? It didn't make the last update of the database as the database was 'done' by that time, but I'm using a player modified version of the Tribesman someone posted here on the forum, I think it works 'significantly' better then the 'old' one and have it replacing the 'standard' one in my database (the 'real' one I renamed to 'Tribesman orig' and set it so the AI can't choose it. I also remember another titan that was submitted, but it changed the 'original' design a little too much for my personal taste IIRC so I didn't use it.

I will appreciate an update of the assault database were most of them get at least shield1. Unshielded assaults are just easy prey for decent plasma opposition. While fighting assaults your jocks energy skill should be high enough to do called shots. Each time I fight assaults without shields I can kill them easily with my squad of 6 plasmas.

Yep. I think I posted an upgraded Scorpion too, that can actually use both its lasers without shutting down, thus much more formidable...

Will take a look at some of the one's I designed to start with... A lot of the designs I used in the shareware days didn't use shields... Banshee and Vertigo come to mind right off the bat. The games evolved quite a bit since then and shields are now more useful IMO.

A lot of the designs in the database are carry overs from the shareware days and the 'rules' have changed significantly. Even though Iceman and to a lesser extent myself have made 'sweeps' over the database looking for ways to in general to improve designs and to update them to the newer rules, it very useful to get imput from others that spot things we've overlooked.

Besides if we can find enough things to update... we could have an excuse to add a couple more newer titans to the database [;)]

Well, shields were improved, that's a fact. Now as to that changing design philosophy, hmm. They haven't been made "better", just more efficient. Called shots were also nerfed big time.
The fact that some assaults don't have shields is due mainly to designer's choice. Only 12 assaults don't have one. Shields produce heat, so they're the logical choice to be dropped PROVIDED you have a good ECM and/or plenty of firepower to kill before dying. Design choices.
The original "intents" of the designs were kept as much as possible, if they didn't create weaknesses, always with the premise that they can be tweaked at any time by each player to suit their tastes.

Ares - good armor, ECM even though weak, good firepower, GCs, good jump capability for defense
Avatar - excellent armor, heat based attack, excellent armor, all firepower no systems philosophy
Banshee - Bblue's design, but good ECM and jump and firepower
Behemoth - Rosary's design, 2 PGs of its own, good ECM and jump - this one can be given a shield by tweaking systems
Blue Dragon - weak ECM, good jump - same thing, but systems will suffer I think, and heat diss is already stressed
Devastator - it's a support, other systems are more important
Gargantua - another Rosary design with dual PGs and plenty of firepower and good armor
Kraken - same as Devastator
Maelstrom - my own design :) , designer's choice, focus on LR firepower
Sodom - 3 GCs, good armor, good ECM, jump - with some tweaks, prolly can get one
Vertigo - Bblue's design, LR firepower, good ECM, jump, mesons
Warlord - good upper armor, yadda yadda - maybe with some tweaking

Not even a whole day and I already had to update my file. :p Some of my personal designs, esp. mediums, are better (one renamed) and there's a new heavy.

What about having 6+ GCs? Shields won't help there. The only significant difference is range is shorter. Maybe it's the PGs that have too much range? Or need to recycle even slower?

If you're fighting a bunch of assaults that can't get in range to fire - slow speed and close range weapons - that's expectable. If they're all Annihilators, it could be an even match. ;-D

Took a look at the Vertigo, Banshee, Behemoth, and Sodom... made a post in the map forum so I could add zipped xchange file. Also took a look at the Blue Dragon but the cost of adding a shield just played havoc with the other systems, not worth it IMO. As For the Devastator and Kraken... if you could find room for a shield, you could find room for another weapon[:'(] Will look over some of the others when I get a chance.
