RE: Combat
as an oldtime/longtime A3R/ERS'er and AWAW player, i constantly find the "Winter as the first turn of year" confusing. it's been noted in the Dev forum.

Germany Spring 1942
Germany - Spring 1942
We continue to consolidate our gains in Europe - with no action in Africa or the Middle East. Our U-Boats & Luftwaffe attacked the remains of the British Fleet in the Med, sinking or damaging three transports.
Its going to be a busy year.....

MB this blood thirsty Nazi is obviously going to attack peaceful SU in the next turn. Think about some distraction to his west.
Also hit that "L" key (Lend Lease) [:D][:D][:D]
In memorable words of Warren Zevon: "Send lawyers, guns and money, the sh*t has hit the fan!" (or is about to)

That's an awful lot of tanks pointing toward the East. Assuming successful combats, how far can paullus move in one turn? Put differently, if he takes the first line of Soviet territories, can he attack the second line (with units that weren't involved in the initial combat)?

Not all of his units are tanks. Tank icon with "10" next to it signifies there are 10 units in the region, and the unit on top of stack at the moment is Tank unit. Others are presumably mostly infantry.
But I do note Nazi put tanks on top of all his stacks just to instill terror in the hearts of Soviet Soldiers! He won't succeed!

RE: Germany Spring 1941
it only takes 1 mech unit in an area to show the tank icon. so a stack of 10 units could be 1 mech and 9 inf.
yes, units can attack 1 area, then mech (and any units with 2 MP) can go into the next deeper area and attack. this assumes both areas cost 1 MP to enter.

So, if I'm reading the screens right, Germany has 12 mech units currently with a few in the pipeline. On the last screen, we see 4 mech symbols on the Soviet border and 1 in WE. Hard to tell if there are any in N. Africa, and we can't see India this turn. So, given the stacking, he could have as few as four mech units at the border, or as many as 11 (one being in WE).
Interesting -- even with full fog of war there is an element of uncertainty.

RE: Germany Spring 1941
Japan is almost toast and I know it. It's only a matter of time before the mistakes made early catch up, but perhaps Bushido can see us through.
Nothing much this turn except some defensive naval battles. There's not enough supplies to move what's there, much less position new forces.
Below is what's in the pipe for the next turn. I spent everything on Supplies, because my naval forces used up what I had stockpiled earlier. This is my first game as Japan and the movement of my navy has caused me some large headaches, along with my timidity towards China.

Japan
timidity towards China
you say that like its a bad thing. [:D] i have a lot of respect for this game because, among other things, it holds true to the axiom; every (resource, supply and unit) spent fighting China results in a 2 to 3 times loss in (resource, supply and unit) available to fight the US.
Japan has a weakness, it's resources. every ounce of energy must be spent on solving that problem, directly and indirectly.

RE: Japan
Soviets here again. Given the latest heavy concentration of Panzers on western Soviet borders even the biggest Germano-philes in the Politburo must face the truth - Nazis are about to attack Mother Russia!! (err, I mean, East Poland, Baltic states and Ukraine)
More factories opened, more officers purged. Sceptics warn us we won't have enough supplies to support such humungous army we are trying to build but we'll think about it later, if ever. We ordered Lavrentij Beria shot because we couldn't stand seeing his face at this dramatic moment.
STAVKA's been put on DefCon3 (wait... [&:] nevermind...[8D]). General Zhukov is appointed commander of Moscow military district. General Vlassov has been relieved of his command and is currently on trial for grand treason (apparently he planned to defect to Germans on the first opportunity).
Komrade Bekket has been appointed Chief of NKVD frontline forces - so his job will be to insure the patriotic spirit among the frontline troops remains at the highest level, even if he'd have to resort to machine gunning the deserters and defeatists!
That should help him relieve some tension for not being able to participate in the beta test of the latest Katyusha MRL.
Radio stations are ordered to switch from imported Glenn Miller records to continuous play of Russian Military marches, patriotic anthems and occasional Newsflash or two, telling about new factories being opened, new armies mobilized, supplies being neglected and such.
We await the inevitable.
Oleg

RE: Japan
Hey Oleg, don't say i never gave you anything.
The Ausies in Malaya launched an invasion into Manchuria and reduced the garrison below 3 combat troops, and we all know what happens when the Manchurian garrison is not maintained:

All that's left is for some Russian troops to move in and claim the 3 Resources and a Factory.
(My turns not over just thought you might want to see this Oleg)

Goodness gracious!!!!
Tokyo in the hands of the enemy!!![X(]
Now, other than the shock of that move (could it really be possible to invade Japan from Malaya?), isn't it a little 'gamey' to 'raid' Manchuria in order to 'unfreeze' eastern USSR?

Well that is the point of testing you know - to identify the gamey tactics and then eliminate them as soon as possible. Hats off to Matrix for washing its laundry in public but I guess everyone should realise that in a beta you are supposed to try to break the engine.
Not much point if you only tested low risk strategies and then expected the buyers to only use those tactics.

Well, reports of action were a bit premature.....the Luftwaffe requested some R&R, so we were more than happy to comply. Our U-Boats continue to poke holes in Allied transports, while some additional ship movements took place in the Med & Baltics.
Next turn will be the blockbuster - stay tuned.
