Allied Player vs Japan AI

Hi, In the period before Guadalcanal Japanese submarines sank 184 merchant ships of 907,000 tons. (more then the Allied submarines sank during the same period) After the Solomons Campaign Japanese submarines were more and more used in a supply role.
If the player sends the Japanese submarines to interdict allied supply routes he will sink more merchants. If he uses them to intercept allied warships he will sink fewer merchants and lose more submarines. If he uses them as supply boats he will sink nothing and his losses will depend on the amount of enemy ASW deployed around those bases he is attempting to supply.

Outstanding thread Mr. Frag! I'm glad someone finally had the interest (& guts [;)]) to fire up a game vs. the AI and post some AAR's! Well, I dont have any more doubts concerning AI aggressiveness. The Japanese AI seems to be extremely active carrying out amphibious assaults, and all those deliberate & shock attacks appear to be generating some interesting battles.

I'll eagerly continue to watch in AWE!

Thanks Mr Frag for the AAR. You are doing very well vs the AI and I'm sure that is in part to many replays and getting to know Japan's opening moves and taking advantage of that intel. I am curious why their naval LBA didn't attack you more vigourously the first three days? Is it because you kept further south than historical or just luck on your part?

Some comments and questions:

1 - The Wake garrison seemed to be defeated rather easily. Do they start out with poor readiness or morale?

2 - I noticed that in the main surface action between the Brit fleet and the Japanese that one Brit cruiser was hit 52 times while the rest got off rather lightly.

3 - When your surface fleets intercept and blast the enemy invasion fleets, do the invasion fleets flee away from the landing zone or do they continue to unload troops?

Glad *you* guys think I am doing very well. I am about to loose Singapore, PI is running out of supply. I am holding for the moment in Burma, but thats about it ... The one Brit CL got hammered because it was got hit hard right off and the AI decided to finish it off. Did a great job too because it went down the following turn.

Basically, I am getting kicked everywhere and fighting back as I pull out resources and oil to feed Oz, but I am running out of time.

That should give you an idea of how the AI plays as Japan. One month in and nothing I did really detracted it from it's goals. It is still expanding like a virus inspite of me breaking up 3 major invasion fleets. Not too shabby and there are 2 higher skill levels if you really want to get spanked.

12 hours after starting the game, I am basically 1 month in. That should give you some ideas about how long this is going to keep you busy. As I am playing AI, there is no waiting for turns and I could still only get a month into a weekend's day. There is 3+ years left of game time [X(]

Yea, what the hell happened on Wake? I was a bit angry to see my brothers defeated so easily! The 1st Defense Bn. shouldn't had been overwhelmed so easily. How the heck did the Japanese assault get 3 to 1 odds anyway? I guess so much for that going historically on the 22nd.

The Wake landing is a bit of a mystery. It is about a 33% chance of a success the way it is set up for turn 1. It is completely dependant on which ship the CD's hit during the landing. If they get one of the right ships, the landing speed is slowed and it is a complete loss for Japan. If it picks on the escorts, then enough troops get off the boat and it becomes a 3:1 and japan gets it. Luck of the draw...
