MANHUNT

Post by Pippin »

Ok, I recently (finaly) got ahold of manhunt and figured i'd check out what this (strange?) game was all about. Lets be honest, after reading some of the reviews, I was not quite sure what to expect. One of them equated playing Manhunt as enjoyable as being sodomized by a room full of Americans MPs. In any case, I am a few hours into it, and sitting here wondering still myself as to what is going on. I think I finaly figured out the theme, being video taped in order to make a kind of snuff-film.

While not too impressed, and almost feel like not bothering to continue this game, I cant help but feel I'd better at least complete it, hence I'd be a hypocrite to trash it. Perhaps, it will get better later on I don't know.

Curious if there is anyone here who has actualy LIKED this version from Rockstar Games? Comments?

Wouldn't you agree that it's sort of a social commentary? Much like the GTA series?

A friend from work summed it up best.
"Its like GTA...except they upped the violence and took out all of the fun elements"

And just what hardhitting social commentary did any of the GTA series deliver?

Right. Well safe to say I haven't resumed play since I last posted. I see I am not mising much gameplay with it, hopefuly rockstar will re-think on their next release. In the meantime I will be trying to complete FarCry. Just too bad I need all the latest shader support right now.

Nobody ever said hard hitting. It's like a movie man........

You could watch "Black Hawk Down". On a first pass you say "Look at all those cool guns and cool explosions. Rock out!!!".

There are some games that I reccomend absorbing a bit more then others to get the point. For example, take the radio chatter and song rotation in GTAIII you'll hear some interesting notes that took some bites out of Clear Channel, some vieled mentionings on music.

To me the games looks sort of introspective towards "falling down/standing up" syndrome, which I think it something of note these days.

Manhunt, seemed pretty clear to me. I'm at least reasonably sure it's talking about our obsession with 'reality' tv. We live in a place where you can view just about anything as entertainment, dating, marriage, just general life. Don't forget the other friggen rediculous things that have come out of America's recent obsession with this crap. So here's a guy who's filming reality. But he's fabricating it, pulling the strings, creating the situations. Giving more points for the blood......

It's nothing that hasn't been done before, but I'd say there is slightly more value to most of RockStars product then face value.

What reviewer out there has so little common sense to have come up with rediculous bullsh-t as this?
I'm essentially graphically and history oriented, unfortunately to connect the two I have to do maths. I hate maths.

I am pretty certain if say he had posited "As much fun as a naked Jew would have on Arab Street...." it would be reason for a warning though eh?

well - if it was some 16 y.o. posting his thoughts on a forum just for ha-has, then that is one thing.

but if this was a comment by anyone in the gaming media....

Sort of...I dunno I am about to the point where I have accepted that there is a double standard regarding nation bashing that will never be overcome.....

How about "as much fun as an Irish protesters being massacred by British paratroopers"?

Or maybe, "as much fun as a Greenpeace activists being murdered by French Intelligence."

Or even "as much fun as a inmate in Saddam's prisons being fed into a wood chipper while European peace-niks yawned."

Can you hear the laughter? C'mon, let's yuk it up.

some fights are not worth fighting....I doubt we'll get a sermon on why "that's different" and we really don't need to disrupt the 'ecology of the forum"....

Like i said Doggie just chalk it up to jealousy on the part of the former powers of the remaining one.

I thought it was a good game, not as 'fun' as the GTA games but this was obviously meant to be alot darker. Reminded me a bit of the Nicolas Cage movie 8mm in its tone and both dealt with 'snuff' films. Definately not a game for everyone, and definately not something Id let a kid play...gee if you dont kill someone violent enough you get bitched at by the man who holds your fate in his hands. Gameplay wise its obviously a 'horror surival' type game that focuses more on stealth then pure action.
