Happy Birthday Don! I guess the most obvious thing here is that WitP enthusiasts are not a bunch a kids but mature men who find fun and intellectual challenge in good wargames. Matrix Games has done well to provide games interesting enough to grab our attention and keep us calling for more.

I'll be 52 on June 24. Kind of think of the release of WitP on my birthday as a great birthday present, maybe I'll drive over to Columbus to pick it up. If not, I will be sure to buy the download. [:)]

48 an old AH gammer. Looks like most of us owe our love of war games to AH.

Don't we all? 35 here with a long line of AH games in my stable... not to mention Victory Games and a few others... FLATTOP and Pacific War by AH and VG respectively were what hooked me on this theater of the war...

31 on July 1st...

Started playing Avalon/Hill board games like Squad Leader, Panzer Blitz, Western Front, et. al when I was like 11 or so against my Dad... who would beat me badly each and every battle until I got to be about 16 or so and was able to strategize better against him.

First computer war game was Squad Assault by SSI on the Apple II when I was about 10 (I think). Used to play a lot of the SSI Civil War games on the computer like Antietam, Gettysburg, Chicamauga, etc etc. when he got his DOS-based machine. I've been trying to get him to play UV with me, but he claims he's "overwhelmed" with all the micro-management and has yet to get passed simply installing it on his machine. [8|] No way I see him trying WitP [:D]

Synjin that sounds similar to my situation. I'm 34, My Dad weened me on board Games. He and his friends used to play alot of Squad Leader.

He also set up a Sandtable in our basement, about 12' by 8' in size with two access holes in the middle. They used to play games using thier own rules with 1/35 th scale armor buildings and troops. Sort of a hybrid based on squad leader. Very impresive looking(He was even on TV showing it off Once). Unfortunately I was considered too young to play, bummer.
They also divided up the basement once into two rooms with a curtain in between and used micro warships and subs to play out 3d wolfpack games( they used a very clever device made from PVC and mirrors and binoculars to create a periscope for the sub player)they used red lights in the op room, made for a real cool effect.

My early love in gaming was AD&D (also a Gary Grigsby masterpeice- still going strong from what I hear). Once the computers became cheaper we used the atari 800xl alot(I still have one mint in box)
I remember playing lots of cosmic balance, war in russia, Pacific war, carrier strike.

Thanks for the post Brady, its been fun.

Im 26 and will be 27 on the 7th of July. I was born on 7-7-77. My first war game was the piece of crap Victory at Sea. Then went to college for 5 years and did not have my own computer, and bought UV in 2002 and have played a lot since.
