Commitment levels of IJN vs. USN over time

Post by Feinder »

I know it works this way (and was explaining it to my brother), but does anyone have the hard numbers?

Each side is allowed say 1000 points in May '42. From that 1000 pts is deducted the starting ships values (giving a net of say 300 pts). This 300 pts is what is used to draw ships (by their VP value/class/etc) from Japan and Pearl. The computer continually tries to keep you near that 1000 pt mark, and thus insures a relatively consistant fighting level; so if you've already got 950 pts in play, your "probability of release" is likely "low", and if you have only 600 pts in play, your probability of release is likely "high".

This "amount of points of available ships" can be modified by the "commitment level" that we select at the start of the game. So if you have a commitment level of 140%, that side would have a pool of 1400 points.

But that number also changes over time. I recall that, for IJN, that point pool peaks around July/August of '42, and then constantly declines until Dec '43 (when it's VERY low).

The US on the other hand, has a fairly consistant rise up thru about Feb '43, and then the rise accellerates (and USN ship commitments can end up quite large).

So for example (again, I'm just ballparking numbers, what I'd like is the harder data, or dramatically wrong I am).

Date_______IJN______USN
05-42_____1000______800
06-42_____1200______850
07-42_____1400______900
08-42_____1400______950
09-42_____1300______1000
10-42_____1200______1050
11-42_____1100______1100
12-42_____1050______1150
01-43_____1000______1200
02-43_____950_______1250
03-43_____900_______1400
04-43_____900_______1500
05-43_____900_______1600
06-43_____900_______1600
07-43_____900_______1600
08-43_____900_______1600
09-42_____900_______1600
10-42_____900_______1600
11-42_____900_______1600
12-42_____900_______1600

Does anybody have any better data than my guestimates (of relative points). I really don't have any idea how many points are allotted (and there certainly other factors of what gets released, ie. capital ships must have escorts ect).

Anybody have better data?

Well the total number of victory point value of ships on theater (or sailing to it) is taken in account.

As for changes, it seems to me than IJN and USN commitment do not change much in 1942. Will say that (with 100% level) IJN commitment should be around 9000 and USN around 7000.

Then in 1943, IJN commitment will decrease all during the year and USN will rise, giving USN quantity advantage in spring 1943 (quality advantage is big bonus, of course).

Let the AI play both sides and you can see the commitment numbers at the top of the screen for both sides. It will show both the current level of ship points and the desired level for each side.
