AFAIK flat panels screens will have more problems with fast changing images, like in first-persons shooting games or flight sims. Are OK for wargames and desk work, and take less place of course.

CRT = Cathode Ray Tube. Big tube.
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display. Flatscreen.

Try Google or the Wikipedia for longer explanations :-)

LCDs have varying refresh rates - any on the market now should be able to at least play a DVD just fine. Piuck from the higher-end of the price range at whatever size you want and you should be fine for gaming. I'll say one nice thing about CompUSA (ever) and that's that they have a nice selection of LCDs connected to fast PCs running 3d games. Go look at some in action.

We're a design studio at work, so we have lots of Apple 23" LCD displays hooked up to dual-proc G5s. These things play Medal of Honor with *very* impressive framerates - around a hundred, but I haven't taken the time really tweak my settings and check the actual fps, but it's up in triple figures (at full res of a 23" monitor too).

The LCD displays handle that action just fine. Go ahead, drop $2200 on a display and the adaptor to go to the DVI port on your video card. It's digital all the way from the GPU to your screen.

ive decided NOT to get an LCD monitor- for the time being

ill just get a decent sized CRT monitor, and later, maybe in a year, get an LCD monitor, maybe once the prices go down a bit lol

I have an Optiquest 21" and am real happy with it. I think it's going out though. I'm looking at another 21" or maybe a 22" in the Viewsonic brand.
