RE: 2Day AAR Kid vs. EL TOJO
This is my first WitP PBEM game using 2 day turns. My first thought is that the Japanese get a little extra boost on turn one because I can't react for two days. Normally I can fly what's left of my aircraft out of Clark Field before the second strike.
I'm going to play this game different than the others I've played. I plan on conducting a Fighting Withdraw instead of a full blown evac. I am hoping that by fighting for each base my engineers will damage a lot of the facilities that I normally leave for the invaders. I am hoping that this will pay off in the long run by slowing down the flow of resources and costing the Japanese a lot of supplies to repair the damaged facilities. We will see.

Well, I just spent my lunch hour inputting orders and I've just about finished India off. I hope to get the tunr back later tonight then things will start rolling.

RE: 2Day AAR Kid vs. EL TOJO
Kid & Nik, please try to offer more thoughts than the average test AAR on how the 2-day a turn format is affecting your play and plans. I'm sure there are many of us who are interested in the 2-day format since we will be lucky to get a turn out a day of this monster.
I started a UV 2-day turn with Captain Ed shortly after seeing Nik's 2-day alpha test several months ago. In addition to getting thru the game before four years are up, was the comment that 2-days gave the game a more realistic feel. That made the 2-day option attractive! We have made great progress but there are many micro-managing issues. And Mogami was correct that once you get into a battle, it is difficult to extract heavily damaged ships from the danger zone. But all of that could be good and more realistic since our total control in the one day format may not be all that accurate.

RE: 2Day AAR Kid vs. EL TOJO
essentially you cant Mogamimicromanage when playing 2 or 3 day turns...at least not to same degree. You will find that it will be wise to make far greater use of the "Commander's decision" and "Retirement Allowed" than one would in a 1 day turn. (where i think few people will use it at all)
This was particularily important when we did a 3day AAR but wont be quite as critical with a 2 day turn cycle.
Thats what makes it a bit more realistic....you have to act more like a Yamamotto or a Nimitz vs a Halsey or a Mikawa. You have to delegate to your TAC-AI more. Beng careful with your airpower is extremely important as fatigue can build up to dangerous levels after two days if the range is medium or long.

Nope its Nikademus

Well, now, that was a dumb question, wasn't it? Considering Nik posted the combat results.
I'll just spam myself.

Ok, between wife duty, dinner and the kids it only took me 5 hours but the turn is in.
Because this is a 2 day turn I decided to take some chances I would not other wise take. I figure I now have two days to get in and out before the Japs can react. I’ve decided to oppose the landing at Brunei in Borneo. Recon tells me there are 10 AKs there without escort. I hope my boys got it right because I’m sending in TF Z to hammer them. I’ve moved fighters to Singkawang and Kuching to provide LR air cover while I make my approach. I’ve set the HP of TF Z to Batavia so they will run in the safest direction after the engagement. I just hope the transports are still unloading when I get there. I’ve also move all my Dutch LBs into range and limited their Max range so they will concentrate on the invasion hex. I feel safe disclosing this information because it will all happen this turn.
There are a few other places that I’ve taken similar risks, we’ll see if I’ve made a mistake next turn.

Ok, just sent in the turn. Last turn went better than expected. Because of the two day turns I was able to sneak in a few raids that I would never have tried on 1 day turns. My only disappointment was TF Z. I miss calculated and it took them one day longer to set up the bombardment mission than I planned for. My dilemma is do I carry out the attack knowing the Japs on in on my plan, or do I cut and run?[&:]

No escort for the Pennsylvania? [:-]
Wish you all hadn't posted the nice map with hexes and grease pencil overlay. Your thread will soon be hijacked by people wanting to know how they can get the same map. Might as well post that now and get it out of the way! And also explain that you are not beta testing the map that will come with the game or be sold by Matrix. (I assume that's true, anyway)

RE: 2Day AAR Kid vs. EL TOJO
The (hopefully) former fleet flagship had an escort. They failed to protect or avenge themselves.....though two other Iboats were not so fortunate.

no if anyone deserves a [:-] its me.
Players expecting another rendition of the Bananarama boy/Fragfest./Mogami-san like Japanese deployment are going to be sorely disapointed.
This is actually my FIRST grand campaign attempt in PBEM as Japanese and i'm suffering for it...along with not being able to spend the required 5-10 hours setting up a turn1....thus i'm following in Pry's footsteps in having TF's out there that are suseptible to intruder attacks by TF....though i DID take steps to counter such moves.....(only the weather saved Pry's Force Z from an attack...the gods of war were not smiling on me those TWO days in a row.)

No apology or explanation necessary. Play on! I fear that if I try a campaign game in 1-day turns that I will exceed my life expectancy, so I am closely following this thread. [;)]

There are 19 map art files that are all BMPs. I opened the up in Photo shop, made a hex layer, and then lightened the maps. Next, I put the hex layer back down on top. This way when printed I could see the hexes. I printed them out at 1/3 scale and mounted them on foam board. Put it on a card table and covered with Plexiglas.
Not a Matrix map and not being tested. Sorry.
