Hosting and playing internet games from behind a router with NAT adresses.

Post by TexMurphy »

Hey milo I thought Id better break this into a separate thread to help other peeps with searching for this topic.

I cant host a server on my network and play internet games on that server.

Ive got a router which gives me NAT adresses on my computers. I play and host from the same computer. I have the 11100 and 11101 ports open and forwarded to my machine.

I connect using the internal NAT adress 192.168.1.1.

The other player that Im testing this with connects to the server normally. He is on a direct connection to the internet with firewall shut off (just to make sure its not issues on his side).

We can both be in the lobby nicely and chat with each other. But when we start the game it freezes with just showing the space background.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Also is there any peer to peer communication involved in the net code or is it pure client server?

Thanks.

I host and connect fine with a router. Not sure. Try DMZ'ing.
@TheDeadlyShoe> Unless, say, you could make black holes at will.
@Razeam> I can do that but I don't want to.
