Some Newbie Questions

I hope you guys dont mind me asking some noob questions:

1. Are there turrets on fighters? (or just stationary gun models) I havent played the game much but I couldnt find any actual model of a gun on a fighter ship

2. Is it possible to view the current ship models in "Magic"?

3. Is there locational damage?

4. Is it possible to augment the shield so that it only covers a certain portion of the ship?

5. Is it possible to have a one laser weapon? (all I've seen are dual laser weapons)

Not in 3.9 version. 4.0 could have 1, but I don't put my head on it. It should be possible though, even as secondary weapon (secondary weapon = usually missiles).
2. Is it possible to view the current ship models in "Magic"?
No. Models of the 3.9 are hidden inside .DAT files (along with other files). You can use Magic to look other (modded) ships.
3. Is there locational damage?
Only for components (weapons, radar, shield generator, power source etc.).
4. Is it possible to augment the shield so that it only covers a certain portion of the ship?
Yes and no. If you do ship for yourself, you can create shield as own individual model (or modified ship model) which example don't include turrets and thus turrets would be without shielding.
5. Is it possible to have a one laser weapon?
Yes.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Fighters can have turrets, they default to defense mode. There's only one fighter in the game that has a turret though.

***Yes there is:
aft turret on fighter. and not that it matters but my Master Bomber has one too. (I think milo took some hints from it...:)).

If you just want turrets to be exposed, it's better to just make them easily damaged than it is to tweak the shield to not cover them, unless of course you are using capacitor shielding.

I'm not sure if the game actually detects collision on turrets, either.

I've only ever done really small mods so this is my first real mod project (Haven't got any ideas on what kind of mod though). But thanks anyway
