Loading multiple units

Post by Tiger »

Is there a hotkey combination for loading multiple units?? When I unloaded I had 3 units on a barge, now that I try to load them, I can't figure out how?!

Try left clicking on the squad, etc, then clicking on the load icon, then clicking on the barge, do this for each unit until full.

SOrry but that didnt work in every case , cause the squad need to be in the same hex than the barge.
In some scenario grrr, the only way to board is to have the barge in deepwater load the unit kept on the doxk in shallow water. Alas I just dont know either how to load more than one this way, and it cost me the DV <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

To load multiple units in a barge, the unit to load has to be in the ajoining hex. Left click on the unit to load, hold down the shift key and left click on the barge (IIRC or maybe the load "L" button and the shift-move). Also in some scenerios, there are more units pre-loaded on the barges than can be reloaded. This is done in the editor I think, so you might have to make multiple trips after the barges are unloaded.
Hope this helps.

FLARE: Yes you can, to add a unit to an existing unit in the same hex, select unit to add, Hold Shift while selecting occupied hex. HTH

Its been a while, but IIRC you also can't load a vehicle onto a barge if the vehicle is carrying infantry...they first need to unload. I'm basing this on a scenario I played in the *very* early days of SPWAW.

Be aware that scenario designers can play tricks with units, loading up mutiple small units (like snipers) then changing them to different units for use in the scenario.

If someone wanted to simulate the very large Me glider that the Germans built (carry capacity about 1 company) they would just have to load about 20 snipers then change them to squads.

An LST could load up a full complement of snipers and have them changed to tanks. A landing craft is going to have a general limit of 2 vehicles with a carry cap of 254 it can carry 2 vehicles up to 227 weight each or any two vehicles that the final two digits of weight add up to 54. If the final two digits add up to less than 54 you can add men to take it up to that total.

So that landing craft could carry 5 ten man squads plus a 4 man recon patrol since that would add up to 54 men, loading it legally. If done with the editor it could have 54 units, if snipers were loaded then converted. But then you could never reload it all back again while playing.

A nasty "cheat" could be had with loading tanks onto heavy trucks, when the 220 carry capacity truck loads the weight 232 tank it thinks it is loading a unit with 32 crew, not 32 weight, so it allows you to load but then "reduces" the crew to 20. If you ever play and see your opponent field massive vehicle crews, suspect the worst.
thanks, John.
