Bombing Industry causes damage. This is scored. This is how the Allies will end the game.

It also works for Japan against Oz & USA targets. It used to work against *all* targets, but limits were put in to control where the points would actually count so I asked Luskan to smack Oz since he had planes in range to check it still counted.

It is official. Raver is insane. Just crazy.

He sent the hermes and the Revenge, with a CL/CA/CLAA escort off to perhaps attack moulmein? Maybe to deliver aircraft to Andaman? Something loony - and he paid for it.

Of course, if he'd been a turn later, he'd be a genius, but he wasn't. My own little CV fleet and attendant escorts were actually headed north to hit Chandpur, when my float planes spotted him at almost extended range (almost - we got torps thank god!) and launched. Now Raver's swordfishies had a go and got slapped down by my fighters -a nd they also had a few goes at my nearby escort tf, but that didn't work out too well for them.

My losses weren't as bad as they looked - but I did put a torp into the Revenge to slow her already slow ass down, and 4 torps into the Hermes which sent her straight under the waves and the remnants of her air wing landing at andaman (empty). Now for the best part - Raver has a wounded BB out in the middle of the bay of bengal and I'm between him and his closes bases (Diamond harbour). To get to diamond harbour or chandpur, he's got to get past my little cvs. He can't really head south because I've got betties all over malaya that would love him to try and make port there.

Now that I think about it, I think this had to be a diversion - a big diversion, from something up north at chandpur so I might wonder in and take a look very soon.

Also, a lone tanker was spotted (possibly not alone of course) passing on what seems to be a direct line between LA and Noumea, by one of my long range scouts out of Kwajalein. I might have to investigate that too - hopefully it is a US division on transports . . .

I have committed all remaining subs in the pearl area to destroying Raver's hunter killer group there. I have lost 20 subs to date, and am not reall happy about ti. I lost two more this turn, but I have six subs either in, or very nearly in that hex and hopefully I'll take a few of those over effective escorts with me.

Also, my battle at lanchow is finally starting to go my way, and Raver has started to loose more troops than me. This is good, because recon planes just spotted a 127000 chinese troops marching out of Kungching towards Siam. Fortunately, I am well prepared for such an obvious counterstroke. Not sure how fast Chinese troops move, but hopefully it will take them three or four turns to get there - and my size 4 fort and thousands of defenders (I was SOOOOO expecting this!) will get to have some fun. Operation Banana Kiss is actually the luring of enemy troops out of the industrial heart and TRAPPING them via encirclement away from the heartland, without destroying them, allowing my an easier prosecution of my advances there. 70000 chinese troops trapped in the north, hopefully another 120000 to follow, and I was sort of hoping that Raver would be dumb enough to attack Canton (and i'd cut him off from Changsa and nanning) but unfortunately it seems hes happy to sit at Wuchow and wait for me.

Finally China is starting to look good.

Enjoy.

Bugger! Poor intel has cost me HMS Hermes. I had NO idea that Luskan had any CVs in the Bay of Bengal as spotter reports had only shown BBs CAs and DDs, so based on that I had the RN CV group tracking a north-south path waiting for the expected bombardment group to strike north. I spotted them on the move and closed in only to get smashed[8|] A very hard lesson here that cost me a CV and has also shown up a very big gap in my intel gathering.....I need more search aircraft to fix this.

I china I was trying to bait Luskan towards me by forming a few armies (12 Divisions) and feint towards Sian, but it seems that Luskan is onto that. Drats ! Now I will have to come up with some other equally smart plan[8|].

Singapore and the PI are doing there jobs in holding down japanese troops that could be used elsewhere, and one wonders just how much longer Luskan can afford to spend messing around at these two places. I suspect that he will be very keen to knock off Singapore at least by the end of Jan, and see the PI campaign finished by the end of Feb.

The turns just get better and better.
My troops drive the chinese out of Lanchow - and take over 300 heavy industry and lots of resources and oil, as well as cutting the remaniing 60000 chinese troops off from any supply WHATSOEVER. There is nothing north of them but a little empty base. There are no resources, not supply, and no roads or trails leading to supply and resources. Simply put, they've had it.

And now I'll leave 50000 of my own troops at Lanchow, and the remaining 200k+ are already on their way back to Sian. From there they will either disperse along the front line to apply more general pressure, relieve a couple of empty bases that arebeing beaten up by partisans (only two of these however), await Raver's hundred thousand from Kungching, and move south leisurely for the siege and occupation of Wuchow.

Raver tried to send his ships west - away from all bases, but was too slow. It cost me 11 more kates, but I finished the Revenge and the Columbo, as well as beating up on a couple of his other ships. Another turn or two and I think that I can close the book on this little battle as a surprise - but a complete success. With Repulse and POW not in this tf, it is thought that I must have hurt them worse than reported, otherwise they'd be in that tf I'm pounding away at.

Hopefully this is the case - once the RN is finished in the bay of bengal for good, I can begin a few little amphib ops I have planned in the area without having to keep 4 bb and my little cvs in the area to defend them.

Things in the PI and Malaya are proceeding fine. I don't want to race ahead of my own timetable, and then get bogged down because I moved too early. Within a month reinforcements from China will arrive to finish those two theatres off - I already have all the oil and resources I need - Singapore has a few resources, a little oil and some HI that I want, but that isn't going anywhere yet.

A tip for jap players: the allies are impatient. If you do NOThING you'll find they're dumb enough to come and find you, rather than wait for 43.

I see Luskan's tactic. He plans on having the hunter killer group expend all it's depth charges on his submarines.[&o]

Well, if only my subs were acutally shooting ack, that tactic might work. No, Raver is just going to sit there until he has every sub in the pearl area sunk. This is the first thing being asked for in the first patch. More controlled USN ASW.

However, my hope remains that if I get off a few shots I'll have justified it.

China is looking oh so much better now, with troops flooding off transports into garrison roles, and my divisions all on their way to their new positions to crush Raver's Chinese once and for all. There will ahve to be a few weeks off for my assault troops however, Iw asn't counting on Lanchow being that hard to take.

In other news, my ever victorious troops have reached singapore, and are poised to make their attack. However I think I'll settle in for some big bombardments to try and increase Raver's disruption (and lower my own and my fatigue, a lot of those troops marched a long way!). With the aussies there, this fight might drag on for a while.

With my troops halfway to clark I've ordered a halt to rest, refit and regain some "edge" before assaulting the PI fortress.

In other news my cvls and cves added the CLAA Ceres to the sunk ship list. That is 1 cvl, 1 bb, 2 claa and a scratch on a CL for this sortie - and for the amount of force I've used, you've got to be happy with the results (cost me about 19 kates all up).

My troops are massing at Moulmein and Rangoon - although those in the jungle will stay there for the moment as I hope to put enough presuure on the coastline that Raver has to drag some of those burmese rifle units over to hold places like Akyab, so my jungle units have an easier advance. A little while off yet however.

Don't worry about DC ammo. I screwed up on the ammo, actually assuming "patterns were dropped", and worked this into the ammo for each ship and their wartime ammo increases. As it turns out, the results we are seeing are for "individual depth charges", and if you don't SEE the charges being dropped in the combat screen, ammo is not being expended. Basically, with this and the ability to rearm at a fish bait store, ASW ships never run out of ammo. Hopefully, this will be ammended in the patch. That and their wire guided munitions.[:)]
