Scenario/Campaign Management

Post by Wild Bill »

The number of scenarios and campaigns will continue to grow. Here are some tips for you on managing them to avoid overwrites and confusion.

First, all scenarios are to be eventually put into the \Scen subdirectory of SPWAW. That is the only way the game can find them. It is the only place it looks for them.

BUT...Important, I would unzip them into a temp folder first. Check their numbers against scenarios you already have in the game.

If they are the same, they will overwrite each other and you don't want that.

So then you change the numbers in the newest ones to a blank slot in your game.

Next, campaigns. You are right. They do overwrite each other. So you must remove the campaign you have in the game before unzipping another into it.

That is why I strongly recommend that you keep all your campaign zip files in the \campaign subdirectory of the game.

Until there is a better way, this is the only way. Its not our choice. That is the way the campaign editor was done by SSI and we have not had a chance to remake it.

But it works fine this way. Play a campaign, keeping the original zip file intact. When you are finished, delete those files from your \scen subdirectory.

Then you can install a fresh one.

I also strongly recommend that you keep all your scenario/campaign zip files either on floppies, zip disks or a second hard drive if you have one.

You could download them all again, BUT, its quicker and easier if you have them at your fingertips.

Eventually we'll be giving more hints and hopefully a scenario file manager to help you with this.
