Hopefully this game will come out in time for all of us to spend the holiday weekend playing it.[:)]

That said, I want to go on record as saying that Matrix did the right thing in unveiling the game at Origins. Origins is historically the largest board wargame convention in the US, and where bette to introduce your product to other people who might be interested, but we not aware of your product. My hats off to them for getting a few advanced copies ready to sell there. Each copy that they sold at Origins will help them recover the costs spent for the game, and may even lead to other copies being sold as well. You have to remember that Origins is a GAMA show, and many wargame distributors and retailers were there. You want to have them see the product and maybe pick up a few copies to take back to hobby shops.

Even if they had not sold copies at the show, we probably still would not have been able to get the game any faster. Origins, and to a degree Gencon, has always been about new releases, and when I used to go to one (or both) of the shows each year, it was always coolto be able to pick up copies of stuff that wouldn't be hitting the stores until the week after the convention. It aded to the fun.

Sadly, Gencon is no longer in Milwaukee and the cost vs fun factor of cgoing to Gencon or Origins can't compete with Historicon. For those who don't know, Historicon is in Lancaster, PA July 22-25 and is an internationally known wargaming show. Unlike the others, Historicon is an all miniatures convention. No RPGs, just miniatures. It costs a lot less to attend ($20 admission, all games are free). For a grognard, you have a better chance of finding that historical game from your favorite period. The convention theme this year is D-Day, so there will be a bunch of Normandy invasion games running (10-20), but hundreds of games covering all periods will be going on. I plan to get in on some WWII naval and air battle stuff myself. Shame Matrix isn't coming. I'd bet they could sell a few copies at the ocnvention there as well. I remember Talonsoft used to come back when they were publishing Grigsby Games.

Thanks gunnergoz for the kind words. I have worked for defense contractors since retiring from USN in '98 and these things happen. Usually I've lined up another job and bailed prior to layoff but this time I wasn't as agile. I know what you mean about SD county and city layoffs. I have enjoyed the time off, first time I've been un-employed as an adult so I've been lucky and my finances are good so no immediate concerns. Now time to stop surfin' and back to the resume [:'(].

If it does (indications are yes! )....

What will you be doing next week ( and next weekend ) ??

My wife went on a trip to NY and left the kids ( 3 ) with me this weekend for 5 days. Last weekend she was at dance camp for my daughter. And the week before that she was in Dallas with my family for the weekend.

So - I havn't seen her for the last three weekends and I have been stuck at home with kids the last two weekends...

So.... when she gets home I'm sending the kids to the inlaws for 3 hours ( not like I'll need 3 hours [:D] ) - and then I'm going to lock myself in my office with a cooler of beer and cokes and sandwiches and WITP for the rest of the weekend!!

That's my plan anyway - actually, I'll probably get stuck going to 4th parties, doing yard work - going on a picnic - and will get lucky to get even 10 min alone with my wife!!
[:D][:D][:D]

I am quite sure I will be fielding the "Why don't you ever talk to me" question from my wife.....

Leaving July 5th for Hawaii. [:D] I will be scuba diving, celebrating 10 + 1 year anniversary, and paying respects at Pearl Harbor ...again. [8D] Seeing Pearl Harbor always has the effect of turning me into a real diehard Allied Fanboy. [;)]

I've been stationed at both Yokosuka and Pearl; There is no substitute for riding into Pearl and seeing Pearl Ridge and Pearl City in the backround behind Ford Island.

Hopefully it will be here by then, or i honestly wont understand what they are doing [:)]

They already have several titles available for DD, so its not like they have to setup a new relationship with a download service. Even uploading the durn image file by 56k modem, it would have been done by now...lol (we know is that its smaller than 512 MB's). Once transferred to a site with a better connection (and Digital River as i have understood is the provider of the service), they should be able to spread it from there to...well..anywhere they want within minutes, as Digital River has to have a connection strong enough to support a number of people downloading simultaniously. Spreading it to 100 sites simultaniously should be a walk in the park, only slowed down by how fast the operator managed to type in commands [:)]

Then setting up the practical download / payment thingies, and off you go. Since they already have a number of titles for DD, i would have thought it a rather small matter to be honest. I cant think of why it will take long unless we are talking one person companies in combination with fax / snail mail correspondance [:)]

Well those "thingy's" take some time. It is NOT a trivial process and they have to follow DR's process to get it done. It is still a fairly short thing, but it will take a few days, I'm sure. And it would nice to know that they've downloaded and installed the game, internally, several dozen times or so, before they make it available tot he rest of us. I want a good Out-Of-Box-Experience, if I can.

No, not yet. My work sometimes takes me to Nagoya, to the MHI plant there, where
my company, MHI and the JDA are codeveloping Japans' F-2[8D]. I am often doing [X(]doubletakes[X(] there at Komaki Airbase seeing the F-15Js and other aircraft with the famous red Meatballs, that we all know about from history and our passion with these games. Never have seen Kure or Yokosuka but if it is impressive (as Pearl Harbor) I would like to[8D]. Have seen Tokyo Bay though from about 5-10k feet as I leave or approach Narita.

Narita?!? I’ve spent 3 months sitting in Radisson hotel over there, accompanied by one stupid lady and several tons of legal papers… you have a better job I must say…

well I doubt Yokosuka and Kure look as impressive as PH, but if you’re interested in Pacific war history you won’t be disappointed…

It is getting to be very hard to concentrate at work.
I see all these japanese ships swarming on my bases.
I see these torpedoes falling.
AAAAARGHHH!

If the DD doesn't come out soon, I shall need some professional help

If I am given the opportunity to travel to Japan again, I am going to look those places up.
There is a small museum at the MHI plant at Komaki. It has a restored A6M?, that was found on Yap in tiny rusty pieces. They also have what appears to be a prototype of that WW2 German jet/rocket plane that used hydrogen peroxide for fuel, dropped its wheels upon takeoff and periodically just blew up sitting there. J8M1 something. Also while there, I read where they had rediscovered some WW2 Japanese submarines near Nagasaki, which had been deliberately sunk post WW2 to keep the technology out of Soviet hands. One of the Subs listed was I-58, the sinker of the Indianapolis.
