Gawd such sad memories, this brings back, when I went into the service, my brother rambled through my closet and sold ALL my old DC and Marvel comic books in a garage sale. I had the 100th issue of Spiderman, where the Green Goblin kills Gwen Stacy!! arghhhhhh hahah

Man those were the days too, comic books were a "DIME", and a small bottle of coke was a "NICKEL" and the large ones were a "DIME". Damn I sound like my parents now when they told me bacon was 15 cents a pound, gasoline was a nickel a gallon, an apartment rented for $5 a week. geesh Cheapest apt. I ever rented was $250 a month all bills paid.

If I could just go back in time with the money I make today. ;) I'd be living in Beverly Hills too! haha

I sold GRIT newspapers also, anyone remember those? ;)
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

Actually, Tom Sizemore would be perfect as Sgt. Rock.....

I agree 100%

Sgt.Rock ruled..lets see there was Icecream...Shortround...Wildman...was it Four-Eyes?...and a bunch of replacements who were always taking the same role as the red shirt guys from Star Trek[;)]

I was a big fan of Ghost Tank too,but apparently by the time i started reading it it was an almost entirely different crew. There was an allusion in one of the issues that most of the original crew was killed.

Some other favorites was The Unknown Soldier, remember he of no face...I couldn't believe it when they had him killed saving some girl from a landmine just as the war was over[X(]

There was a stranger series of comics, but i can't remember the name, where Dracula the Wolfman, and Frankenstein were working for the OSS along with some normal guy.Going on missions behind German lines and raising hell,so to speak.

I can't believe i remembered all this just reading that post about Sgt.Rock.If they do plan to make a movie i might at least give it a chance before passing judgement.Though of the actors mentioned so far none of them seem to fit the persona.

Those were the days, growing up on Star spangled War stories, Sgt Rock, Haunted Tank, SGt Fury, Unknown Soldier and other War based books, plus Playing "guns" in the neighborhood...

Toy Guns were fine then, Societys simply become sick since the way Real guns are used and how Toys have been surppressed...

OTOH, "guns" has moved into Nintendo, PC's where you have the First person shooter games....... so I suppose its gotten Technology advanced but I think I had more fun as a Kid then My Nephews have these days..

Sgt. Rock sums up it up for us. All this talk of Sgt. Rock has me calling my P's asking if the comic books I left behind may have some how survived and have been waiting for me to reclaim them. NOT !!! that junk went in the trash years ago dear old Mom informed me [:(]

Image

He Hehh You should have told Dear old Mom, "oh no, I found out they might be worth 10,000.00"

I still retain some of what was once a 10,000+ book collection,
Years back they Funded my Buying a XT then a 386DX-33 and also the older Pentium II.... (I'm now on a P-4 1.8ghz)

I think when My parents saw the "junk" getting sold for hundreads to a couple thousand Bucks that had them wondering who in their right mind would pay that much for "funnie books"

I still have 2,000 or 3,000 Left of the Collection.

Of Course in perseptive, the Min Wage was around $1 a hour if that, so People maybe took home $40-$50 a Week pay

$5 a week out of $30-50 a week pay check then food, other bills...

Still as a Kid, a Dollar went a longer way then It does now,
ans more in perseptive, a Comic now is 42.50 to $3.99, Cokes alot more then a Nickle or Dime...

However People take home not $40-50 a week at Min wages but More like $200-250 a week before taxes 5-6x as muxh a week but of course the rents etc are higher... so in some ways nothings changed... more income but things cost more..

As to Grit, never saw the paper... but saw PLENTY of the Advertisings about Selling Grit

This kind of crap just sickens me, as American soldiers are dying every day to defend our foreign policy. Sgt. Rock is a comic book, for chrissakes, and is a poor representation of the real American soldier in WWII. Band of Brothers gave us a realistic picture. It had to happen, didn't it? Mainstream Hollywood absolutely hates portraying history as it really happened. Screw them. Real history is in many cases more fascinating than anything a Hollywood scriptwriter can invent.

Well your right it real is not all that important in the scale of world events. I don't think we can post on the war as it would get locked anyway ( see thread by Marine). As your post on the beheading I cant reply as much as I am right there with you on my feelings but it will only get locked if I put down my fellings on the thread. As for the war I know whats going on over there ,I spent over a year deployed in that hell hole of a sandbox (Our 1st middle eastern tour). Trust me my feeling run REAL strong . I am so pissed off that there is talk in my house of re-upping. Trust me im with ya on this KG Erwin. But this is not the place for OT anymore [:-]

Sarge, I believe that discussion of real -life military events deserves a place in this forum. When I play SPWaW, I try to put myself into the mindset of a real battalion commander. As such, I take pains to preserve the lives of my men, and I will do everything in my capacity as a virtual USMC Colonel in WWII to ensure that my units' casualties will be kept to an absolute minimum while I plan for the success of the assigned mission. It may seem silly to others, but it matters very much to me.
