v5.0 Manual - most images not showing?

Post by generalrichmond »

I have the v5.0 manual and am using Adobe 4.05 Reader (the most current freeware Adobe .pdf reader).

I've noticed that only about 25-30% of the images in the manual show up? Is anyone else experiencing this? Or could it be a setting in Adobe that is incorrect?

TIA

The latest version of acrobat for windows is 5.01 dated 3/27/01. It worked fine for me though even back with v4.x, would you perhaps have a less capable video card? What is you display set at, mine is 1024x768x16k colors, if you only have 256 colors that might be a problem.
thanks, John.

General: I have no problems with the manual or Acrobat reader, I have no answer for your problem either, but stick with this forum and I am sure someone with the knowledge will reply...usually you get more advice and quickly on this forum, but I assume they are busy elsewhere, just be patient. I also read your question about the stereo sounds...a search (see top of page) on that subject should give you the answers you want.

Thanks, everyone.

I am running a STB Velocity 128 card and my screen is set at 1024x768 w/ 16bit color... Win98 on a Gateway 400 Celeron.

Still clueless on things, but will try a driver update for my card.

General: Unless I'm mistaken the game is designed to work on 800x600 and that would apply to the manual also....try changing display and check manual.

General Richmond, chief is probably correct. You neeed to read the manual in 800x600. However, if this does not work then remove Adobe and reinstall it. I know it is a pain, but many times(with windows) you must go through this. Good luck. Keep us posted-no pun intended.

If you try to print out a page with missing images what happens?

If it is still missing, you might try downloading the manual file. That way you can see if you just have a bad copy of the .pdf file.
thanks, John.

I´m new to SPWaW but not to Acrobat. The problem should not be your screen resoulution or colour setting, but rather a corrupt download or Acrobat Reader program. An Acrobat PDF file is created for the biggest compability (even between platforms) and a profesionally made PDF file can´t have any compability problems on Windows (XP, ME, 95, 98, 2000) or Mac OS, as long as you open the file in Adobe programs. At least this is the theory, but you proved them wrong
OK, now I´m just rambling on here...sorry.
I´d try reintalling (uninstalling your current version first!) the newest version of Acrobat Reader (downloading a new one, not using your old copy) and if this don´t work, download the SPWaW manual from the site. If all else fails, contact Adobe support or check in on a forum on adobe.com, but I´d be suprised if you didn´t solve the problem by reinstalling and downloading the manual again.

Hope this helps

pax27, in the main you are correct. A new installation of Adobe is probably needed.

Problem solved!

What I did:

Erased Adobe 4.0 Reader from 'puter. Installed Adobe 5.0 Reader.

That was all it took.

For anyone searching on Adobe's site - you really have to fish around to find the link for the current reader (v5.0 - ironically named). It's not located on their DOWNLOADS page, but you'll find it via an obscure link to a text-only page that has all the various versions of v5.0 Reader. Can't recall how I got there - sorry.
