C-46?

Post by Arnir »

With my lousy reading skills I might have missed it, but I didn't see the C-46 on the list of Allied planes. I'd be happy to be wrong on this.

The plane was used quite extensively in the CBI "Hump" runs. Will players need to recreate the supply flights over the Hump?

Thanks.

I can’t find C-46 artwork in the planeside file… so probably it was not included… with 3180 a/c built during the war, this is quite strange decision really.

It does seem a bit strange.

The C-47 got the press but by the accounts I've read the C-46 was quite useful and used in the war.

From a quick search on the web I didn't see any Lancs used in the PTO. (I found RAAF Liberators). Lots of Lancs were slated to be part of the Tiger Force being assembled for Pacific duty, however.

Returning to the original question:
So are there Dakotas/ DC3s in the game?

Yes, that is unfortunate. Really carried a large part of the hump airlift (my father flew in pretty much all the various AC used.)

Is the C-54 in the planeset at least?

C-46 carried a larger load than the C-47, but it could be temperamental and "tricky." It was a more complex aircraft.

C-46 should definitely be included. 3k built = OOB error big enough to warrant attention in a patch, IMHO.

So do they just give the units that flew the C-46, C-47s? Or are the units not in the game?

As most of the websites liked to point out, it was the largest USAAF 2 engine plane in the inventory.

My Dad gave me a plastic kit many, many years ago. That was when they came into my consciousness. I never thought they were pretty, but they did do a good job.

That I don't know. I just looked at the aircraft database shots from the SCREENSHOTS thread.

Hopefully someone can answer this for us.

C-46 was better in just about every way to the C-47 and it could carry 50 men to the C-47s 28.

There is so much in the database that this may have been overlooked, I can't speak for Matrix or 2 by 3, but will bring it up in the developers forum.

The Tabby, Japanse License Built DC 3 is not in the Game either folks, it was considered by the Japanese Navy their most important transport, baffeleing the planes they chose to leave out.
