A Question About Digital Download and such

Post by yamaslob »

I have never tried a DD and have some questions such as;

1) Can I use a friends Broadband at his house to dl it? 56k here.

2) Will I then be able to burn it onto a CD to take home as my own?

3) Do we get an actual CD sent from Matrix to back-up our DD?

4) What keeps someone from making multiple copies if you can indeed copy to disk? Not that I would of course. Me and my wargaming friend take turns buying games in sets and if the company doesn't make money then...well you know.

Thanks in advance. I must say I am a little leary (sp) of doing the DD and will not if the answer to questions 1 and 2 are no and I might not if 3 is a no.

I got the impression that you purchase one serial number, which allows you to download the game as often as you need to, to make archival copies, but only one installation at a time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this. There is no disk copy protection scheme, I read here somewhere, only the serial number you enter at installation which allows you to play without need of a CD.

And I think the answers are yes, yes, no (unless you buy it separately) and nothing (see above).

Mind you this is just gleaned from the forum.

Thanks for the quick response. I do enjoy this forum.

Well If what you say is correct then I might as well do The DD instead of waiting for snail mail.

more questions,

1) can I call over the phone to pay for a DD?

2) when purchasing 2 copies(yes...my turn to buy, friend bought the K. Pockets) do I have to DL the whole damn thing again or will I recieve 2 serial numbers?

Hehe...I thought I reconized the name. Had some great fun there long ago, back in the pre-alpha days of CM. I still have the original beta demo on disk somewhere. It was my first experience with computer wargaming. I have Battlefront to thank...er...blame...um..yes...thank for this wait I am going through now.

BFC and Matrix are the only two gaming companies worth their salt...they listen to, and care about, customers. And their games are labors of love, though they'd never admit such a thing. [:D]

FWIW, I purchased both Across the Dnepr and Campaigns On the Danube via Digital Download. I downloaded them at work on a DSL connection, burned the file to a CD and brought it home to install with no problems. You do recieve a serial number which is needed during the install.

Since I live about 90 miles from the nearest software store, I'm a huge fan of DD and it's one of the things I like about Matrix. Why wait days for mail order when I can have a great game in a just a few hours? [:)]

When I purchased each game there was an option to have a CD mailed to me for an additional $9.99, but I didn't think it necessary since I just burned one myself.
