the Shinano only had a capacity for 48 planes?? that doesn't make it worth very much in terms of striking power.[X(]

Shinano was envisioned as being a Fleet support carrier, servicing the airgroups of other CV's in her battlegroup(s). As such she herself would only have embarked a organic airgroup of her own.

In a true "battle CV" role, her size could have obviously supported a much larger airgroup. (if the planes and pilots had been available)

Actually 48 may have been generous.

Yeah, it's incredible one could mod a Yamato into a carrier and only have that many planes. But the Shinano was less a true carrier then envisioned as some sort of CV resupply and repair ship. During the war a lot of what the Japanese did reflected really muddled thinking.

Witness the unbelievably dumb half-mods of the Ise and Hyuga into pseudo-carriers that took two years and a lot of resources....
